Southwest Colorado Research Center is Hiring a Research Technician

The Southwestern Colorado Research Center in Yellow Jacket, Colorado is looking for a hard-working, independent and detail-oriented non-student hourly/ student hourly employee. Duties will be split between assisting a PhD student with research focused on cover crop management and assisting SWCRC staff with crop research trials including alfalfa, legumes, dry beans, wheat, hemp and canola. Job responsibilities will include plot management; sample collection (biomass sampling); soil moisture and fertility sampling; soil sieving and processing; plot data collection; seed preparation for planting; assistance with plot harvest (with plot combine and by hand); and general farm maintenance (moving water and mowing). The employee will be trained on specific tasks and expected to perform them independently. Employee should enjoy working outside and have the ability to perform repetitive tasks with good attention to detail.

Student PIRG Action for Change Summer Internships

The Student PIRGs Summer Internship program is designed for college students who are looking to increase their experience in political organizing and strategy. This 5 week long program provides interns with opportunities to build their leadership skills, political engagement, and interest in advocacy careers. Interns will work remotely on a variety of different campaigns and take part in weekly tactical workshops to develop their skills in outreaching to the media, building a coalition, generating grassroots support and more.

COVID-19 Student Action Fund Grants Available

COVID-19 Student Action Fund from the Clinton Global Initiative University is looking for students who are using their skills to make a social impact. Working within the CGI U Commitment to Action model, this fund will provide grants in the range of $2,000-$5,000 to students who want to take the initiative to work on addressing the COVID-19 crisis and the ways it is impacting our communities.

8th Annual Forest to Faucets Workshop

The Forests to Faucets teacher workshop, teaching kit, and curriculum guide were designed based on the children's book My Water Comes from the San Juan Mountains (included in kit). We feel that it is important for local students to know where their water comes from because water doesn't just come out of the faucet! Teachers can greatly benefit from this workshop full of place based, hands-on learning and expert guest speakers no matter which watershed they are teaching from. Lessons are geared towards Colorado state standards for upper elementary but can be modified to meet standards for all grades. Teaches can also receive 16 contact hours for their time.
