AUGUST
Yikes! We seem to be in a whirlwind of celestial and weather happenings recently!

NOEWISE, a comet that appears once every 7,000 years, shown brightly over the lake and mountains. It was spectacular! Then Saturday night... Saturn, Jupiter and the moon all aligned, and stargazers around the world were able to capture images of all three at once!  However, yesterday a hurricane with the unpronounceable name of “Isaias”, brought tornado warnings and spawned a “tropical storm” that wrecked havoc in our corner of the world! There must have been some mistake. New Hampshire is far from the “tropics” and we don’t have “tropical storms” that cause white caps on the lake, take out power, uproot trees and obliterated August’s full moon last night.

With a little bit of luck, the skies will clear and the mostly full moon will rise magically over the mountains tonight.

JOIN US THIS SUMMER!

We are taking the unique opportunity of Camp being closed this summer to open our facility to the local community. Knowing that local families won’t be able to travel, we would like to offer you the chance to enjoy the beautiful outdoors close to home. As we are unable to run our regular summer camp program this year we would like to offer the community this service completely FREE of charge!
There’s no midway or amusement park rides due to the pandemic, however in the spirit of Hospital Days, the tradition carries on.

Check out the “Parade/Parade” and Virtual Dunk Tank featuring our brave local Police and Fire Chiefs
CUE THE MUSIC
Tonight at the Ben Mere Bandstand in Sunapee Harbor, the music of The East Bay Jazz Ensemble will entertain. Bring your chairs or blanket and join friends on the green for some great music, starting @ 6:30.
Then on Saturday, local favorites Click & Joanie Horning will perform under the tent on Flanders Stage, 5 ~ 7. Folk & acoustic music performed at the lake’s edge on a summer evening, what could be better?
In the meantime, enjoy the music of pianist, composer, Will Ogmundson.
DID YOU KNOW?
August is “NH Eats Local Month”…. a month long celebration of local foods in our state and the hardworking farmers, fishers and food businesses that provide for us all year long.  Fact: if every household in NH spent $5. of their grocery money on locally sourced foods every week throughout the year, it would put over $338 million back into New Hampshire's economy!  Spring Ledge Farm and Sweet Beet Market have a bounty of summer produce available.
LETS GET ARTSY
The virtual version of the New Hampshire League of Craftsmen's 87th Fair continues thru Sunday, August 9th.

SPORTS
Back when the coronavirus lockdowns first began, everyone came up with their own ways of passing the time. Readers will recall the video we shared of two sisters in Italy who found a unique way of playing tennis from the rooftops of two buildings, the ‘net’ was the street below. Tennis champion, Roger Federer also took note… with the help of Barilla Pasta Co. he surprised the girls and challenged them to a match up on the roof.
MILESTONES
Recently two Sunapee-ites celebrated their nonagenarian (90th) Birthdays as family and friends gathered 'round.

August 1st was Delores (aka “Dosie") Dowd’s special day. On many a summer day, she can be seen cruising the lake with her son, LSYC Past Commodore John, in his Woodie… aptly named “Dosie” in her honor.

On Saturday, dozens of festively adorned cars led by a Sunapee Police cruiser and fire trucks... sirens blaring, paraded from the Harbor, past Nancy Clark’s home where they were greeted by family and a surprised Birthday ‘girl’ in joyful tears.  As the family gathered for a lakeside dinner, the MV Mt. Kearsarge cruised close to shore and passengers, led by Capt. Kara sang a "Happy Birthday” greeting.

Project Sunapee and scores of friends sadly note the passing of Tony Bergeron. Tony was an integral part of the fabric and soul of Sunapee. He brought a light so great to our town, evidenced by his work and care and love for the community he devoted a lifetime to… even after he’s gone, that light will remain.
