REMINDER: Fireworks Are Illegal in Los Angeles
As fourth of July approaches, the Los Angeles Fire Department reminds you to please: “Leave Fireworks to the Professionals.”

Fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles, because, in our dry, fire-risky climate, they are extremely dangerous. A new study found that man-made fires are, on average, six times more destructive than naturally occurring ones. Metro's Huge Investment in Reimagining Public Safety
By elevating and listening to the voices of passengers, LA Metro this week made a huge investment in reimagining public safety, creating and funding a program that will help make the transit system safe and welcoming for all passengers.

The agency approved a three-year program to hire 300 unarmed transit ambassadors, recruited from local communities, to welcome and guide passengers, provide a visual presence on the system, and summon crisis response specialists or initiate emergency response as needed. Metro is allocating $40 million for the program – a full 14% of the agency’s public safety budget. This is in addition to $15.3 million for services to connect unhoused passengers with housing, shelter and services, and in addition to a new mental health crisis response program.
The Transit Ambassadors will provide staff supervision over stations and vehicles, provide assistance to customers, report maintenance and cleanliness issues, connect passengers with needed services, and quickly summon emergency response when required. Metro’s homelessness program includes 8 teams and 40 staffers from PATH, including outreach workers, case managers, addiction specialists, clinicians, and medical personnel. In the past few months alone, these teams have connected 166 people to interim housing and placed 36 people in permanent housing.
Metro is also partnering with the LA County Department of Mental Health to provide mental health crisis response. Under the program, mobile teams, staffed with at least one licensed mental health clinician, are being deployed to de-escalate crises, and connect people to mental health services.
