The Land Trust's sixth 1% Wednesday Industry Grouping highlights our dedicated
Pennies for Preservation media partners who, on top of keeping our community informed, are helping to preserve and protect more than 70 acres of maritime forest and important habitat at Oatland North by providing
in-kind and discounted media services to the St. Simons Land Trust.

These partners include:

THE BRUNSWICK NEWS
Founded by brothers C.H. Leavy and L.J. Leavy, The Brunswick News has covered more than a century's worth of coastal news and features and remains one of the oldest family-owned newspapers in Georgia and one of the few family-controlled newspapers left in the nation. Today, the newspaper is owned and managed by a fourth generation of the Leavy family and is under the leadership of Publisher C.H. “Buff” Leavy IV.

Buff, a lifelong resident of Glynn County, has played instrumental roles with the Land Trust since its inception in 2000, beginning with participation in early conversations and planning sessions about the need for a land trust in coastal Georgia. He was a member of the first SSLT Advisory Council and has remained a loyal and dedicated champion of land conservation.

In addition, The Brunswick News was a founding Pennies for Preservation media partner and also publishes Coastal Illustrated and Golden Isles magazine, all of which are Pennies for Preservation partners.

"We sincerely value the preservation work of the St. Simons Land Trust. For two decades, their projects have preserved some incredible pieces of land. Their efforts have made land available to the public - that we can all use and enjoy for our lifetimes. We are strongly supportive of the Pennies for Preservation program and all involved. It’s a great mechanism for providing the support the Land Trust needs to fulfill its mission of land conservation."

-- Buff Leavy, President and Editor of The Brunswick News

St. Simons Island native, Justin Henshaw, created the Golden Isles Wedding Association (GIWA) to build the local wedding planning community. GIWA is a member-based, for-profit trade and marketing organization.

In fulfilling the association's purpose of growing the wedding business in the Golden Isles, Henshaw and GIWA promote the area as a premier wedding destination and markets its members as the best resources for local weddings. GIWA seeks to be a trusted network of reputable, high-performing wedding professionals and to continuously improve event quality and strengthen the wedding industry in coastal Georgia.
“The beauty and the uniqueness of our natural resources is the reason the Golden Isles is such a popular wedding destination. GIWA participates in the Pennies for Preservation program to help protect the exquisite features of St. Simons.”

SUPPORTING OUR LOCALS
Please remember that our local businesses
continue to need our support!

Be on the lookout for 1% Wednesday features on social media and via email.
Each Pennies for Preservation industry spotlight includes additional opportunities to support our hometown restaurants, hotels, retailers, and service providers.

Let's Keep It Local!
Pennies for Preservation businesses raise funds to preserve and protect St. Simons Island.
Pennies for Preservation funds are raised by participating businesses either 1) collecting a voluntary 1% or specific dollar amount donation from their customers' receipts/invoices, 2) donating 1% of their companies proceeds or, 3) providing in-kind services to the Land Trust.

Currently, 100% of the Pennies for Preservation contributions goes directly to protecting 70 acres at Oatland North on the island’s north end and to helping create a wilderness corridor on St. Simons.
