An Easter Message from the Presiding Bishop

"Our work goes on. Our labor for love continues," Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop and Primate Michael B. Curry said in his Easter 2021 Message, "We will not cease, and we will not give up until this world reflects less our nightmare and more God's dream where there's plenty good room for all God's children. Hallelujah anyhow."

The Presiding Bishop will be joining us the week before Pentecost for a Zoom Q&A session centered on his book, Love is the Way. Keep an eye out in future From the Fields for more details and how you can participate.

1Book1Diocese Underway - Read the Introduction and First Chapter

This week the Diocese of Georgia begins a 1Book1Diocese read of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's Love Is the Way: Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times. We are currently reading the Introduction and First Chapter for discussions this week.

A book discussion guide for the Diocese of Georgia's 1Book1Diocese read of Love is the Way is now online here: Discussion Guide PDF. Some congregations are holding discussions of the book on Zoom, but you can create your own group as well by asking a friend or two to discuss the book with you each week.

Discussion Questions for this week:
Think back to your own family history. How did your family of origin fit into the larger movements in our country's history-for better or for worse?

If a hunger for love is universal, what barriers prevent the ethic of love from changing the world?

Josie Robbins embodied the love this book is about in her care for the Curry Family after Mrs. Curry's illness. Who has made sacrificial, self-giving love real to you?

Love's great, but how does it apply to real world decisions? Where have you seen love as an intentional action, and not just a sentiment, make a difference?

The Rev. Kelly Steele named Priest-in-Charge of St. Peter's, Savannah
The Rev. Hunt Priest, Rector at St. Peter's, Savannah, since 2016, has resigned to become the founding Executive Director of a non-profit working at the intersection of mental health, spiritual growth, and Christianity. Before coming to St. Peter's he was a participant in a research study at John Hopkins University involving religious leaders and the relationship between mystical experiences and improvements in mental health. The primary mission of the soon-to-be-created non-profit is bringing the findings of the study to the Christian church and the general public. "It was a very difficult decision as my time at St. Peter's has been a blessing beyond anything I could have imagined. It is a wonderful church community of gifted and generous people." Details of the study will be released later this year. Hunt and his wife Lisa plan to remain in Savannah and Hunt will eventually be available as a supply priest.

The Rev. Kelly Steele has been unanimously chosen by the Vestry of St. Peter's as a Priest-In-Charge. She is overjoyed at the honor and privilege of working with such a gifted congregation in this new capacity, helping to bring the strategic plan to fruitfulness. The strategic plan focuses on "shared leadership" development, better aligning ministry to mission, and streamlining administrative processes. "I'm excited to better use the tools we've cultivated from parishioner experience, Kaleidoscope Institute and the Church Development Institute to imagine anew what mission God has in store for the Episcopalians looking to help others on and beyond Skidaway Island," Steele says. She begins this new role on April 12, 2021.
