 Guest Invite
Dear Tour Guests,

Now that Winter is more than half over and Spring is just a month away, it will not be long before American Landscape Tour’s 2020 tour season begins. Winter is a busy time at American. It’s when tours are created for the upcoming season. Many miles are traveled visiting potential destinations.

I would like to provide an advance peak for one of our 2020 tours.
Little Women , an Insider’s Tour”

This is a very different tour for American. While a tour of the locations would be nice, I felt it needed to be more than just that. This tour will not only visit many of the locations used to film the 2019 movie, but also provide access to locations not available to the general public. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look from those that were there during filming including owners of several of the locations that will join us. Learn what it took to make this academy award winning movie.

Few books have captured the imagination of generations of readers like Louisa May Alcott's Little Women . The beloved book written in Concord MA has never gone out of print since it was first released in 1868 and has been translated into over 50 languages.

Director Greta Gerwig who also wrote the screen play for Little Women , felt that it was important to film in Concord in this area, in this environment, and was essential in how she wanted to build this movie. On this very special tour you will journey to many of the locations featured in movie.
Departing from Sharon Ma, our first stop will be just 6-miles away in Stoughton MA. Filming took place at the historic Stoughton train station built in 1888. This is the last remaining clock tower station in this state and is on the National Historic Registry. Long closed to the public, by special arrangement we will have special access to the inside of the station which features amazing woodworking. Learn how this station was chosen to represent the Concord MA train station from the person responsible for bringing Hollywood to town and was there during filming.
Next, we travel just a 6-miles away to Canton MA and visit the 90-acre Bradley Estate. This beautiful country estate owned by Trustees of Reservation was featured prominently in the movie as home to Meryl Streep’s character Aunt March. Both interiors and exteriors of this historic mansion were used. It was also in the final scene of movie as it became the school that Jo established.
Departing Canton, we will journey to Harvard MA. As we enter this beautiful rural central MA town our friend Scott Hayward, owner of the Harvard General Store , will join us and be our guide. Scott is one of the reason Hollywood chose Harvard Center to represent 1800s Concord. Scott will provide a first-hand account of what it took to make that transformation happen.

Scott will show us where filming took place and then we will enjoy a buffet lunch in the Harvard General Store , in the same place which was converted into a dress shop for the movie.
After lunch we will travel just 5-minutes away to Fruitlands in Harvard MA . At this pristinely beautiful property with its panoramic views was were the Alcott's lived for a time. We will tour their home and the Shaker House which was used as the home of Meg and her husband John Brooke in the movie. There is also an exhibit on filming the movie as well.
As we depart Fruitlands to head home, we will make one more stop, as no Little Women ’s tour would be complete without a visit to Orchard House , the home where the Alcott family lived in Concord and where Louisa wrote Little Women .
This is sure to be a very special tour whether you are a fan of the Little Women books, the movie or how it was made, or enjoy visiting beautiful historic properties.
