Pacific Symphony & American Federation of Musicians, Local 7, Ratify New Contract

"Pacific Symphony musicians, represented by Local 7 of the American Federation of Musicians and Pacific Symphony's Board of Directors have ratified a new four-year agreement. Covering work from September 2020 through August 2024, the complex agreement addresses conditions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and paves the way for musicians to return to the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall stage to record a new series of Classical, Pops and Family Musical Mornings programs. Additionally, Pacific Symphony's Frieda Belinfante Class Act program will launch an all-online version providing music education to thousands of elementary school children throughout Orange County; music and wellness programs will provide seniors, children suffering from autism and many other beneficiaries with programming designed specifically to provide therapeutic benefit; and Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles will continue to receive weekly lectures and coaching from musicians of Pacific Symphony. Musicians agreed to a 30% reduction in overall compensation for 2020-21, reflecting their sensitivity to the financial ramifications of the pandemic. By the 2023-24 season, compensation will be restored to levels promised in the collective bargaining agreement that was set to expire Aug. 31, 2021." Read more in Broadway World. New Grants Available for Performing Arts Centers, Theatres, Orchestras, Presenters, and Museums

The Federal relief legislation approved at year-end included a response to collective advocacy efforts by commercial and nonprofit producers and presenters nationwide--$15 Billion to be awarded in grants to venue operators and those who use such venues and represent their artists. Details are still being finalized, but the Small Business Administration conducted an overview webinar last week, which was recorded and may be viewed here. Recipients of these grants are not permitted to also receive new Paycheck Protection Program funding.
Paycheck Protection Program Extended, Adds "Second Draw"
$25 Billion in forgivable loans were also included in the year-end Federal relief bill through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Even if your business or nonprofit organization received a PPP loan in the spring or summer, you may be eligible for a "second draw" loan. Read more at this website and consult your original lender to determine if they will again participate. Recipients of PPP loans are not permitted to receive funding from the Shuttered Venue Operators Grants Program.
