Research, Resources and Updates 
  • The Williams Institute  has released a new, easy-to-use, interactive tool that allows users to explore the institute's impressive research and data on both LGBT people and same-sex couples.
  • ICYMI: Listen to Recordings of Our Teleconferences for Funders Responding to Orlando
    The first call dealt with the current needs, how local philanthropy is responding and the type of help that is needed now and in future; lessons learned by funders from other mass shootings; and how philanthropy can play a role right now and down the road.  Listen to that call here.
    The second focused on the impact of the massacre on communities in central Florida and beyond. It will also offered advice on how to best support efforts led by local LGBTQ and Latino communities in the wake of the tragedy.  Listen to that call here.
Requests for Proposals
  • Brother, Help Thyself (BHT) is now accepting RFPs for its 2016 grant cycle. BHT awards grants from three funds: the Richard Van Der Karr Memorial HIV/AIDS Fund, which is designated specifically for direct services for people living with HIV/AIDS and HIV-prevention or educational efforts; the Medford Fund, for the purchase of goods, such as computers, refrigerators, and air conditioners, to benefit LGBT or HIV/AIDS communities; and the General Fund, which primarily deals with athletic, cultural, educational, or social programs that benefit the wider LGBTQ community.  The deadline for applications is Wednesday August 31st . For more information and to apply, click here.
  • Groundswell Fund has launched a Rapid Response Fund to move resources quickly and strategically for unforeseen needs and opportunities. There will be no deadline or formal grant cycle for Rapid Response Fund grants. Grant requests may range from $5,000-$30,000. A pplications  will be considered on a rolling basis as they are submitted.  For more information about the 2016 grants and to apply,  download the RFP here .
  • The MacArthur Foundation has announced the 100&Change competition, which will award a single $100 million grant to support an idea that makes helps solve a critical problem of our time.  The competition is open to anyone with a good idea, but interested parties must register by September 2nd.   Click here for more details and to register.
  • ViiV Healthcare has announced two new ACCELERATE! grant opportunities.  One is focused on making sex education relevant the other is focused on making testing a bridge to prevention, care, and treatment.  The deadline is September 6th.   Click here for more details and to apply.

People on the Move in LGBTQ Philanthropy

Richard Burns
Richard, previous Interim Executive Director of Funders for LGBTQ Issues and Stonewall Community Foundation as well as board member of the Proteus Fund, has been named Interim Executive Director of the North Star Fund.  Way to go, Richard!

Stephen Chan
Stephen has been promoted to Vice President for Strategy and Operations at the Boston Foundation.  Prior to this promotion, Stephen held  a number of management roles at the foundation, serving as the foundation's Chief of Staff for the last six years.  Congratulations, Stephen!

Matt Foreman
Matt, Senior Program Director at the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, will begin serving as Interim Managing Director of Programs for the Fund on September 1st.  Best of luck, Matt!

Marco Antonio Quiroga
Marco, former Director of Public Policy at the True Colors Fund and National Field Officer for Immigration Equality, has been named the Program Director for the Contigo Fund - a new fund established to advance Latinx and LGBTQ causes in Central Florida.  Congratulations, Marco!
