The Beginning of a Return to Normal
Now that the inauguration is behind us, we can all breathe a sigh of relief. Thankfully the transfer of power was peaceful.

We express our gratitude to the MPD, the National Guard and all law enforcement that preserved the peace and kept us safe and secure. While the festivities were a bit different due to the pandemic, they reaffirmed the strength of our democracy and nation. Hopefully, the spirit and display of unity on Wednesday will continue as the new Administration moves forward to address the multiple challenges facing our country. Let's also hope that this spirit of unity infuses the elected leaders in our city and our neighborhood.

Shine On DC!
The country watched in horror when the capitol building was attacked but here in DC we felt that pain in an especially deep and personal way.

But this week we felt the special pride and honor that comes with seeing DC center stage and glowing. Relive a few of the moments where our resilient town and its monuments, buildings, and spirits stood strong.

  • Watch Amanda Gorman read her moving poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ at the inauguration

  • Listen to the bells toll at the National Cathedral and Basilica in remembrance of those lost to COVID

  • Smile at the sight of Dupont's Q Street Barbies living their best lives and celebrating women breaking barriers

Vote on the Tidal Basin's Facelift
In 2019 the National Trust for Historic Preservation added the Tidal Basin to its portfolio of National Treasures.

However, they report the Tidal Basin is under threat. Silt and water from the nearby Potomac Flats make it unstable, and the conditions they create compromise the site’s historic resources and visitor experiences. Each day at high tide, water floods the surrounding sidewalks, making them impassable and endangering the roots of the cherry trees.

In a bid to save the celebrated landscape, the National Trust, together with Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service, unveiled proposals from five architecture firms to reimagine the future of the Tidal Basin and National Mall and would like you to explore their designs and after reviewing the designs, share your thoughts by taking the Tidal Basin design survey.
