Popeye the Sailor's theatrical cartoon shorts started in 1933 and tend to revolve around a villain, usually Bluto, making a move on Popeye's "sweetie," Olive Oyl. Popeye defeats his foe with his signature move of eating spinach to gain superhuman strength. In addition to becoming iconic within mainstream public consciousness, the majority of 231 Popeye short subjects are highly acclaimed by animation historians and fans. Hopewell Theater pays tribute to spiritual leader Baba Ram Dass, born Richard Alpert, who recently passed away at the age of 88. Ram Dass was an inspiration for and will continue to inspire HT's ongoing series, The Art Of Living Well.

Becoming Nobody (2019) truly represents the core arc of Ram Dass’ teachings and life. His ability to entertain and his sense of humor are abundantly evident in a conversation that brings us around to address the vast question of ultimate freedom. Becoming Nobody is the quintessential portal to Ram Dass’ life and teachings. Opens Saturday, January 11.
Buster Keaton plays Johnny Gray, a Southern railroad engineer who loves his train engine, The General, almost as much as he loves Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack). When Northern spies steal The General (and, unwittingly, Annabelle), the story switches from drama and romance to adventure mixed with Keaton's trademark deadpan humor as he uses every means possible to catch up to the General, thwart the Yankees, and rescue his darling Annabelle. RAISE HELL tells the story of media firebrand Molly Ivins, six feet of Texas trouble who took on the Good Old Boy corruption wherever she found it. She knew the Bill of Rights was in peril, and said "Polarizing people is a good way to win an election and a good way to wreck a country." Molly's words have proved prescient. Now it's up to us to raise hell! Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00pm.

The in-progress paintings displayed in The Mystery of Picasso were destroyed by the artist after the film was completed, making this documentary a "Must See." Tuesday, January 21 at 7:00pm.

Mingle with other film-lovers and celebrate the best films of 2019 at HT's Oscars party! Dress up in your finest glam attire or movie costumes, enter to win prizes in our games and contests, and see the awards show on the big screen with friends.

The event's host and emcee is Erica Rubine, who will be accompanied by Matt Wiley, Alex Palilonis, and Brian Dougherty for live music from or inspired by the nominated films.

Doors open at 6:00pm for live music. The pre-show begins at 7:00pm. The awards show begins at 8:00pm. Our full concession will also be open for dine-in meals and desserts to order. Sunday, February 9 at 6:00pm.
