Re-Opening Updates

Dear AL Families,

We are so excited to be planning for more grade levels to return to the buildings and in-person instruction. Just a reminder of our current return dates (shared in the 1/12 mailing):
  • January 19th for 9th grade (4 days)
  • January 25th for K-1 (hybrid- 2 days)
  • February 1st for 2nd-6th (hybrid- 2 days)
  • 7th-8th grade: the online program continues as we keep on assessing the situation. We hope to welcome back our 7th and 8th graders soon as we continue phasing in middle school students.
If you selected virtual learning through spring break on the last parent survey, your student will remain virtual until then.

More families have chosen in-person instruction this semester and we are working to balance classes and cohort sizes. Some cohorts may be bigger than in the Fall but we are confident that we can still practice the recommended safety measures of hand-washing, cohorting, and social distancing.

We ask parents to review the reopening document that was shared earlier this year, as we need your partnership- especially in doing daily self-assessments with your kids and communicating with the school in case of illness or exposure.

We will closely monitor the evolution of the pandemic and will strictly follow all mitigation guidelines. The school may revert back to online learning if the situation worsens. As stated before, reopening our schools and keeping them open safely will depend on the collective responsibility of our staff, students, and families by committing to the strict observance of the Covid-19 recommendations issued by health professionals.

Thank you very much for your patience and your support.

Have a great 3-day weekend.

Elimane Mbengue
Head of School

Upper Room After School CareUR

The Upper Room is offering after school care at the Oak and Cherry Campuses beginning on January 25th for those who have completed the Upper Room registration form on the AL website.  If you want after school care and have not completed the form, please go to the website and do so by Tuesday, January 19th.

Please know that if, after February 5th, we do not have enough students signed up to make it feasible for the Upper Room to continue the program (Oak and Cherry), the program will reluctantly be ended for the present time. This does not mean that we cannot bring it back into the school, but enrollment numbers must be at a minimum of at least 5 at each location for them to feasibly continue offering the program at our school.

Library Bragging!Library

I am Trisha Sinkhorn, your Media Specialist at the Cherry location. I just love the library and not just my school library.

Did you know that you can have a library card as far as Johnson County? You do not even have to set foot in the library. These libraries all share the same tax monies, so you can have a card at each location. I have ⅘ library cards at these libraries. Be sure to check out the reading programs for adults and children. KCK library has by far the best summer reading program for students and adults.
Currently there is an adult winter reading program at the KC, KS and Mid-Continent Public Library. *You don't need a library card to earn the prizes.

ALIHS Incoming 9th & 1oth gradealihszoom

Dear current 9th and 8th grade parents,
The timeline of enrollment for Académie Lafayette International High School has changed to ensure we have the appropriate staffing and course offering available for our students. As of 2020-2021 the intent to return form is required to be submitted between December 2020 and February 22nd 2021. This will allow your student to participate in choosing their class schedule for the 2021-2022 school year in the spring. It will still be required to complete full re-enrollment during the summer. This requirement and other changes we may implement will continue as we grow our ALIHS student population. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
