Thank you to everyone who joined me on for my Maglev Community Forum on Tuesday, March 30.

I am especially grateful to our speakers Delegate Nicole Williams; Debra Borden, Deputy General Counsel M-NCPPC; and Marcia Watson and Sam Droege from Maryland Coalition for Responsible Transit for sharing an incredible depth of information.

As we outlined during the event, the Maglev will have devastating impacts on our local community, including:

  • Property acquisition, displacement, noise, vibration, aesthetic/visual quality, access & mobility, and community cohesion impacts on homes and neighborhoods.
  • A three-acre, four to five story above ground 4-5 story fresh air & emergency egress system would be built off of Riverdale Road, 23 million cubic yards of soil would need to be moved
  • Construction would take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for several years with a peak of 590-690 trucks travelling on our local roadways every day.
  • When built, Maglev would dramatically reduce Marc and Amtrak ridership, endangering the systems which stop in Prince George's County and which our residents rely on.
  • There will be devastating impacts to local, state and federal parks and green spaces.

Learn more about Maglev and read the Draft Environmental Impact Statement here.
