Hope, Love, Joy and Peace: The Advent Wreath in an Age of Anxiety
The candles of the Advent wreath stand for each of these cardinal Christian virtues.
The clergy of St. James’s will take turns reflecting on how scripture and saints speak to us and shine a growing light in the darkness, pointing towards the coming of Jesus Christ.
On December 9, join Lay Chaplain Blake Singer and the Rev. Dr. Mark Cooper as they explore Christian love.

Your Gift Really Matters!
What value is St. James’s to you? I expect you are proud to acknowledge that you are a part of this impressive shining beacon of hope in Richmond. We are the Home of Jazz Mass, the Children’s Center, full-house youth confirmations, and most importantly, nimble and innovative worship services…
  • in a suddenly sacred parking lot
  • online
  • in backyards, porches and decks throughout Advent

Whether you are a longtime member or a relative newcomer - you are a part of our community. In this epic time of longing, we need each other. And we need our church to be here for us – for a major milestone in life, simple comfort, spiritual grounding, and holy rest.

Your gift commitment for this year and next year will have a real impact on our worship and ministries and
our ability to maintain these levels of ministry going forward. Probably because of the pandemic and
our relative isolation, we are far behind on pledges
for 2021.

When you give to our church family, you become a vital participant in building Christ’s Kingdom on earth. Thank you for making an annual gift commitment for 2021 by clicking on doers.org/give or by calling
Suzanne Hall at 355-1779 x335 to make you pledge.

You may also text Doers to 77977. Pushpay will reply with a link to make your payment. You may give
one-time, or make a recurring gift for your 2021 pledge.

With the support of every member we can continue to be this extraordinary church. Thank you!

Make The Season Bright!
St. James's Annual Giving Tree
COVID can’t stop Christmas!
This year we are collecting monetary donations from parishioners which we will use to purchase $100 Visa gift cards.
Our partners at Peter Paul Development Center will work closely with clients to assess individual needs and will then distribute the Visa gift cards to families and seniors.
Your donation will allow parents to shop for their children and seniors to treat themselves to something special this Christmas season.
Call for Vestry Nominations
It’s an exciting time to be on the vestry of St. James’s: finding new ways to keep us connected, an evolving digital ministry, eventual regathering in the sanctuary, strategic planning, and more.

The vestry Nominating Committee is at work and wants your suggestions as to parishioners who could bring their gifts to bear for our faith community. If you know of some members who would be willing to serve and contribute, please send those suggestions to Donna Horizon by Monday, December 14th.
Thanks for all you do for our church family!
Advent House Churches

While registration for Advent In-Person House Churches has closed, you may still sign up to do either:
  • Family House Church with just your family
  • Zoom House Church that meets at 5pm on Sundays.
You can sign up by using this Google Form

It’s our hope that in their various forms, these House Churches will provide a space for more connection with one another, rich engagement with the traditions of Advent, and an opportunity to invite friends and neighbors into our worship.

Christmas Hope Service
Monday, Dec. 14 at 7:00 p.m. - Live Streamed

In the midst of the preparations and festivities, some find the holidays to be long, dark nights of the soul, full of struggle with life challenges, grief and loss of years past and present. You are invited to our special candlelit service of hymns and prayers for healing. The service will include carols and traditional songs accompanied by piano, flute and guitar.
