Communities of faith are hubs for aging adults. They are places where aging adults feel safe, valued and may avoid social isolation. It is expected that, by the year 2030, 30% of San Franciscans will be aging adults. This stark estimate gives pause to consider what provisions our City is taking to meet the needs of this growing population. The San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS), housed in the San Francisco Human Services Agency (HSA), is charged with coordinating services for older adults, veterans, people with disabilities, and their families to maximize their safety, health and independence. The San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) collaborates with DAS to ensure that faith leaders are aware of these services, assists faith leaders in gaining access to these services, and sensitizes DAS to the needs of this vulnerable sector. This week's "Online Briefing for Faith Leaders," hosted by the SFIC, welcomes newly appointed DAS Director Kelly Dearman, who will present on the mission and programs of the Department, as well as offer her vision for its work moving forward.

by SFIC Executive Director Michael Pappas)
As Executive Director of the Department of Disability and Aging Services, Kelly coordinates services to veterans, older adults, adults with disabilities, and their families to maximize health, safety, and independence so that they can remain active in their community for as long as possible and maintain the highest quality of life. Kelly has more than 15 years of experience developing policies and services to help ensure San Franciscans thrive as they age. Before joining DAS, Kelly was Executive Director of the San Francisco In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority, which helps older adults and people with disabilities live independently and participate in their communities. She is also the former President of the San Francisco Human Services Commission and the California Association of Public Authorities, a member on the San Francisco Long Term Care Coordinating Council, and co-chair of the San Francisco Aging and Disability Task Force.
Kelly has a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, a JD from UC Hastings Law, and an MA in Political Science from Rutgers University. For ten years, she ran a small law practice specializing in elder issues and probate law. Previously, Kelly and her sister operated a real estate company founded by their grandmother more than 50 years ago.
Kelly was born and raised in San Francisco. She lives in the Cole Valley neighborhood with her family, living in the same house she grew up in. She lives with her husband, two children, and her parents.
