Pictures Speak Louder Than Words

There’s a phrase: “Pictures speak louder than words.” Pictures can add vitality to Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church’s website and Facebook page. But we need your help. If you are able to take pictures of our life together, please submit them to the church office (office@crescenthill.church). Not sure how to send pictures from your phone or ipad? Faith Grady in the church office may be able to help you do this.

We understand that some may prefer not to have pictures of themselves posted. If you would prefer that you or other family members NOT be included in pictures and/or NOT be named on our website and social media posts, please complete the Opt Out Form.

Summary of June 19 Session Meeting

Session met on Sunday, June 19, to discuss and approve the following items:

  • Approved minutes of May 15 stated meeting and June 1 called meeting, and the clerk’s report.
  • Discussed the possibility of participating in a Lily-funded project with Montreat Conference Center. No decision was made at this time.

  • Approved motions from Outreach Committee:
  1. That $1650 of the available $4564 in the Guatemala Partner’s account be sent to our Guatemalan partners.
  2. To apply for the Presbytery’s grant to install a charging station with two hoses in the church parking lot and contract with Evolve KY to do the installation.

  • Approved motions from Nurture Committee:
  1. To hold a coffee hour from 10 to 11am on Sunday mornings beginning when COVID numbers decline more.
  2. That session review Scholarship Funds by the end of 2022.
  3. For David Paul Gibson and choir members to hold summer concerts (30 - 40 minutes) and take up free will offering to go to mission.

  • Approved a motion from Worship Committee:
  1. To have worship at Camp Cedar Ridge on August 14 with picnic. There will be one worsip service at Cedar Ridge, accessible via Zoom. Note posted on the church building will include Zoom link.

  • Discussed motions from the Scholarship Committee:
  1. To approve $410 for Lilak Kissel and $548 for Nick Kissel from the Jean Leake Fund to attend camps at Cedar Ridge. Previous policy was to pay half, not the full amount. Motion made and approved to give the scholarships for half the cost for a week of camp. Peggy will ask the camp board to give them the other half. (Nick is a Counselor in Training.)
  2. To award Woosley-Leake Scholarship students $2,000 each (based on full-time student status). After discussion, the motion was amended to give each student $1,500. We have six students who have applied for the Woosley-Leake scholarship: Simon Bartlett Turner, Caroline Hartmans, Mara Wallace, Tess Wallace, Madeline Wilding, and Noah Wilding.

Other Business:

  • Discussion of Core Values handout and work for Session members to do for our next meeting.
  • Peggy requested that Session meet twice a month for a few months to do some more intentional discernment. Session agreed to begin this in August.
  • No Session meeting in July.
  • Jack Marcum and Dave Bush went to stated Presbytery meeting on May 23. Claudia Foulkes and Harrie Buecker attended the called Presbytery meeting on June 2.

Please contact Peggy if you would like to discuss any of these actions.

Coming Soon! Music for a Summer Afternoon 2022 Recital Series

Our Music Ministry will be sponsoring a series of three recitals this summer during July and August. These Sunday afternoon programs will feature a 40-minute recital followed by refreshments and fellowship.

The first recital will take place on Sunday, July 10th at 2:00pm, and will be a program of tranquil minimalist contemporary piano music played by our Music Director, David Paul Gibson. Gibson will be joined by flutist Doug Yeager on several of the pieces. Composers represented on the recital include Michael Nyman, Richard Rodney Bennett,

Ludovico Einaudi, among others.

Sunday, July 24 th will see a recital of Baroque music for flute and organ. Amy Pauw, flutist, will perform two Baroque flute sonatas, assisted by David Paul Gibson at the organ. Composers represented at the 2:00pm program include Bach, Vivaldi, Teleman, and Marcello, among others.

Our closing program of the series on August 7 th will feature a musical stroll through the church year in a recital of our favorite hymns played by duo pianists Frank Kirk, Jr. and David Paul Gibson. You will not want to miss hearing these beloved hymns played by piano four hands. The program begins at 2:00pm.

All three of these programs are free and open to all. Plan now to attend and bring friends. Come for the music and stay for refreshments and fellowship.

We look forward to sharing these programs with you.

David Paul Gibson, Music Director

Update on Sunday Morning Coffee Hours

For safety concerns, we are waiting until COVID numbers decline before starting these pre-worship conversation times. Thank you to Patti and Jack Marcum for offering to be the first host and we look forward to when we can begin.
