Landmark Memorandum of Understanding paves way for U.S. offshore wind workforce transition
Ørsted, the Danish offshore wind developer, and the National Association of Building Trades Unions (NABTU) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to transition our union brothers and sisters into the emerging offshore wind industry.
The partnership will create a national agreement for Ørsted's portfolio of work, including future projects, and is another momentum driver in securing a just transition to the nascent offshore wind industry.
CJNY's letter to the NY Independent System Operator (NYISO)
CJNY sent a letter to the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) on the importance of reevaluating our market models to permit colocation of renewable energy resources into our grid. We also touched on the importance of necessary onshore transmission upgrades, the potential of battery storage, and the need for a trained union workforce to complete this work.
As we are examining what a just transition looks like, CJNY is looking forward to continuing to work with key partners such asNYSERDA, New York Power Authority, LIPA, and our union locals to efficiently inject zero-carbon emitting energy into our grid. Click here for our letter
I had the opportunity to travel to Point Judith in Rhode Island this month to visit and introduce myself to commercial fishermen. Big shoutout to Elizabeth Marchetti, Equnior's Fisheries Liaison, for inviting me and introducing me to all the guys.
I spoke with a half dozen fishermen including the Captain of the Proud Mary, Chris Brown, to learn about draggers, fishing squid/herring/flounder, and how fishermen are integral in responsibly developing the offshore wind industry. The fishermen made it clear that they want to protect our oceans. They are all-in for clean energy and addressing the climate crisis, but we need to ensure they can safely do their jobs as well.
That's all for now. I hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy. If you have any questions or feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out.
