Looking for Congregational Input for Charge Conference on Dec. 6
Before our Charge Conference, we’ve been asked to gather input for these questions which we’ll compile and share that day. Please send responses to office@evergreenumc.org
- How have we adapted and responded to COVID, so far?
- What have we lost? What are we grieving?
- What are we celebrating? What has been life giving?
- What have we learned?
- How have we changed?
We will be in small groups for part of our time together. For those of you attending the groups will be asked to think about a vision of Growing Disciples when considering the following:
- What one thing are we doing well?
- What one area do we want to focus on for 2021?
- What might be 3 goals for 2021?

Christmas Ornaments
We have another way to help make your home more festive for the holidays. We are selling Christmas ornaments made specifically for our church with the church logo on them. Since they are personalized for the church and the year 2020, they make a nice keepsake. They are also a thoughtful gift for family or friends who were formerly part of our church. The ornaments are being sold for $10. For $2 more you can purchase a gift bag to put it in if you are giving it as a gift.
With so few people actually coming to the church in person at this time, we will probably sell most of them online. You can download an order form HERE.
We will sell them right up until Christmas. Since this is our first year offering ornaments, we didn't purchase very many. They've been selling like "hot cakes", so you'll want to get your order in quickly before they are all gone. The church office hours are very limited at this time due to the covid level. If you want to come to the church during the week to purchase ornaments, please contact the church office first to set up an appointment.

Just a reminder that Jessica will be working remotely now through the end of the year as JeffCo schools have closed and her daughter has 100% remote school. She will be available by email and her cell 303-720-9187. Thank you for your understanding!

Emmanual
We prepare our hearts and souls once again for Advent. We celebrate that God stooped down to us in Jesus, who is “Emmanuel”, which means “God with us”. As we search for God to fill every hour of our waking and sleeping, the good news is that God is searching for us. Better yet, he had found us. The great question is not whether we have found God but whether we have found ourselves being found by God.
This season of the Church’s calendar is called Advent, which means “coming”. Christ came, Christ comes, Christ will come again. There is no time – past, present, or future – in which Jesus the Christ (which means Jesus the anointed one) is not God with us. God was with you yesterday, is with you today, and will be with you tomorrow. So we are invited to let ourselves be found by the One who wants to be with us, and to have us with him, forever. Christ is the Emmanuel. He is the One in whom past, present and future are always now.

Wreath Fundraiser Update
Better hurry if you want to order some fresh evergreen products. We are getting to the end of the online order time. Orders should be placed by THIS MONDAY on GiftItForward.com using our Fund Raising Code of UNITEDCO002. Orders placed after the 30th will still benefit the church if you use our Fund Raising Code. It may be difficult to receive products by Christmas if orders are placed later.
We still have 4 extra fresh live wreaths available for sale at the church. If you are interested in purchasing, please contact Vickie Borden here.
Thank you to all of you who purchased wreaths and ordered other products online.

Alternative Christmas at UMCE December 2020
As has been our tradition for more than thirty years, the United Methodist Church of Evergreen is again offering the option of presenting Christmas gifts in the form of honor donations to non-profit organizations we support. In 2020 we won’t be setting out our information and taking donations in person, but we hope this most Christian Christmas celebration gift can still provide a way for the congregation to recognize family and friends in the Christmas spirit.
An order form is provided HERE. The completed form and payment may be left in the Alternative Christmas donations basket in Fellowship Hall on any Sunday in December, or if unable to be in church on those dates, sent in to the church office. Checks should be made out to the United Methodist Church of Evergreen with the note “Alternative Christmas” on the memo line. To ensure contributions are credited to the intended organization, please include your order form with your check.
SPONSORED THIS YEAR: Bethlehem Bible College; Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity; Center for Health and Hope (formerly Center for Church and Global AIDS); Colorado Coalition for the Homeless; Evergreen Christian Outreach; Family Promise; JOY International; Kenya Youth Sponsorship; Mean Street Ministry; Mountain Resource Center; Pura Vida Ministries; and Urban Peak Youth Shelter.

Christmas Toy Drive
The UMCE Missions Team is again collecting new, unwrapped toys for EChO and Mountain Resource Center Christmas gifts this year. Collection boxes will be in Fellowship Hall through December 6th for gift drop off. Christmas will be an especially challenging time for many this year, made more so for EChO and MRC clients by Covid-19 restrictions that have affected contributing communities. Please call or email the church office ahead to ensure someone is available to accept it.

Colorado Coalition for the Homeless
Thank you to all who generously provided items for the new Homeless Veterans Apartments at Fitzsimmons. Special thanks to Marcia Loomis and John Olson for getting their neighborhoods involved. Thanks to Jan Thurling and Marcia for delivering the items collected. Special kudos to coordinator Jan.
|
|
Some basic things are still greatly needed; items may be new or very gently used and clean: flatware (forks, knives, spoons), twin blankets, and pillows (pillows must be brand new). These donations may be brought to the church and left in the Library room through this Sunday, 11/29. Members of the Mission Team will deliver the donated items to CCH.
As we remember the service and the sacrifices of our military veterans, this is an opportunity to extend our gratitude in a tangible way, to indeed WELCOME THEM HOME!

Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Our UMCE family will again have the opportunity to ring bells for the Salvation Army this Christmas season, however, this year we will only be bellringing at King Soopers. Our local Salvation Army chapter is working hard year round to assist those in need in our mountain communities with crisis support for housing, medical care, utilities, transportation and disaster relief. UMCE’s own Lauren Alter and former Pastor Dick Vickery have long served on the Board of Directors of the local Salvation Army chapter. Did you know that the Red Kettle is the primary way the Salvation Army raises money and that 90% of the donations collected stay here in the Evergreen area! If you are able to sign up for one or more one hour bell ringing slots, please go to the following SignUpGenius HERE, then:
- Search for the dates (from now until Christmas Eve) that work best for you, then
- Click “SignUp” for the slots you choose, then
- Click “Submit and Sign Up” at the bottom of the page, then
- At the information page to which you are taken, fill in your name, email and cell phone number. You will receive an email with further information.
It is as simple as that! If you would like help signing up, you can email Bill Graf at bill@billgraf.net or call him at 303-246-8330 with questions.

Family Promise Appeal
The Missions team has agreed to adopt a family at Family Promise by purchasing Christmas gifts. In the past we have passed around a Christmas stocking at an all- church dinner for donations. Since we will not be having a dinner this year, we will have a basket for donations on Sundays. If you prefer, you can send a check to the church with a notation that it is for Family Promise Christmas. The check must be received by 11/29. Each family has a wish list and we purchase gifts from your donations.

We are busy and getting busier by the day! We've seen over 600 youth in counseling in 18 months! Last month we took advantage of the good weather and had a self defense clinic, groups outside, and outdoor movies. We are so very grateful for your support in helping these great kids!
