BLACK HISTORY MONTH COMING IN FEBRUARY TO OAK MIDDLE SCHOOL:
We are so excited to launch our Black History Month for Oak Middle School. We have an extraordinary student run club on campus that has worked tirelessly to coordinate all the on campus events. MSWB club members have created teacher resources, interactive escape rooms and jeopardy games for all students. A door decorating contest will also be held. A special shout out to our student leaders: Alivia, Landon, Rylee, Joy , Cody and Charly for their amazing and extraordinary efforts. Thank you Mrs. Spatharos for helping coordinate the club, and to Mr. Maya for offering support. We are so excited to participate in all the activities you have created.
Science:
What: Black History Month Jeopardy
When: February 1/2
Students learn about famous African Americans and their contributions to world and US history!
English:
What: Stereotypes video and Quizziz.
When: February 18/19
Math (6th grade only):
What: Jelly Bean Test
When: February 24th
The Jellybean Test simulates the obstacles to voting experienced by African Americans.
History:
What: BHM Escape Room
When: February 25/26

SPOTLIGHT ON SCIENCE: Students in Mrs. Shearer's science classes were learning about the phases of the moon. These 8th graders placed their own moons in orbit and watched how the light changed with each change of position.
|
|
SPOTLIGHT ON SPANISH: Students in Mrs. Alfaro's Spanish class are learning a new language and having so much fun doing it. They read Spanish novels and short stories to become more proficient.
|
|
SPOTLIGHT ON LEADERSHIP CLASS: Students in Mrs. Siegmann's new leadership class are getting an amazing taste of what it is like to be a leader on campus. These students create positive posters for the campus, write, film and produce weekly announcements, and create Spirit weeks that get all Oak students connected.
|
|
NEW TEE SHIRT DESIGN: Eighth grader, Emma Osborne has created a new design for our 2020-21 Oak Middle School Tee shirt design. Shirts will be available for $12.00 cash or check made payable to Oak Middle School. Sizes range from Youth XL, Adult S, M, L and XL. Larger sizes are available upon request.

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEWS:
This will be a new feature in our weekly newsletter providing information for parents on our Special Education programs:
The Los Alamitos District Council PTA has a standing Special Education Committee. Oak's representative is Jackie Dominick who is a parent at Oak Middle School. Mrs. Dominic can be reached at jackiedominick@yahoo.com.
Special education information will be shared here weekly including links to resources, parent education opportunities, school, district or Greater Anaheim SELPA events, district and PTA special education website sections, etc.

It took Mr. Banks's drama class three long months to prepare for their monologue show . . . but barely a minute to throw all their plans out the window. From the couple staging their real-life break-up to the garden-gnome thief confessing his crimes, everything that can go wrong will in this flexible collection of hilarious tall tales.

LUNCHES AT OAK:
Lunches available for our Oak families: Each school day, our cafeteria crew is out under the blue canopies handing out free lunch and breakfast. The meals are cold, and will need to be reheated at home. Stop by and show your ID and pick up your lunch!
Oak students can pick up lunches at the snack lines. Snacks are available for purchase when you pick up your lunch: Slushies, water, pop chips, fruit roll ups, poptarts and rice krispy treats are available for purchase.
