Volunteer Spotlight

Yoli Brennan has been involved with Boca Helping Hands in many capacities, including regularly volunteering, donating food, contributing to fundraisers, and most recently becoming a BHH Legacy Donor.

After retiring from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in 2016, she found herself with more time on her hands and started regularly volunteering. Since then, she’s served over 1,400 volunteer hours in our warehouse, helping pack pantry bags of groceries.

As a longtime resident of Boca Raton and having seen the impact BHH makes firsthand, she felt it was important to leave a legacy at Boca Helping Hands.

“Boca Helping Hands is a place that cares about investing in people - not just through food, but also through job training, education, healthcare, and teaching individuals to become self-sustainable,” she said.

Local organizations, businesses, and schools help BHH build a better community through fundraisers, food drives, and volunteering.

In the News

Inflation and volunteer shortages are taking a toll on Boca Helping Hands.

With gas prices continuing to rise, shortages at the grocery store, and the cost of commodity goods increasing, Boca Helping Hands has seen an uptick in demand for hunger relief services. In addition, many of our regular volunteers are migrating back north, and college students are heading home for the summer, causing a volunteer shortage.

Job Training Success Story

Jacqueline D. aspired to become an Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) — and with the help of Boca Helping Hands, she's received the necessary hands-on training to work in the healthcare industry.

Prior to starting the Boca Helping Hands CNA program, Jacqueline was working in the food service industry. She wanted to make the shift into healthcare and having been familiar with BHH from her volunteer days in high school, she registered for the Job Training Program.

Since completing her training, Jacqueline has landed a job at an assisted living facility. She hopes to gain experience as a CNA and continue her education to fulfill her long-term goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN).

"I wanted to start as a CNA and learn the profession from the ground up before moving forward as an RN. This program has been beneficial in helping me work toward that."
