Forrest General Family Medicine Residents Learn About Tobacco Cessation

In January, the MAFP Foundation hosted our first virtual training session with the Forrest General family medicine residents. Speaker, Dr. Karen Crews of the ACT Center shared tips on how to advise patients about quitting smoking. MAFP's Jewell Buckley (pictured) coordinated and hosted the meeting. Participants were provided lunch during the session.

MAFP Foundation is a beneficiary of a grant funded by the MS State Department of Health Office of Tobacco Control called "Tobacco Free Mississippi: Engaging Mississippi's Family Physicians." One of the goals of the grant is to teach family medicine residents how to talk to their patients about quitting smoking. MAFP schedules a visit once a year to each residency program.

Other family medicine residencies are scheduled for the coming weeks. On February 16, MAFP staffers will visit the brand-new Mississippi Delta Family Medicine Residency program in Greenville. For more information, contact Jewell.
