Small Businesses, Nonprofits Eligible For New Coronavirus ‘Paycheck Protection Program’
|
|
The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll.
SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.
The Paycheck Protection Program will be available through June 30, 2020*.
Key Dates
- February 15, 2020 - your business, mortgage, rental contract, or business loan must have been in effect prior to this date.
- April 3, 2020 - the first date in which small business owners and non-profits can apply for this loan
- April 10, 2020 - the first date in which sole proprietors, independent contractors and self-employed individuals are eligible to apply for this loan
- June 30, 2020 - the final date to apply for this loan, unless funds are exhausted prior to this date.*

COVID-19 Update
|
|
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed 11 new deaths and 513 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Nine of the 11 deaths reported today occurred in people over the age of 65, one person was between 41– 65 years old; and one was person between 18 – 40 years old. All reported underlying health conditions except for two individuals over the age of 65. Additional information regarding some of the new cases is pending further investigation. Over the last 48 hours, there have been 1061 new cases.
To date, Public Health has identified 3518 cases across all areas of LA County, including 65 deaths. Upon further investigation, 11 cases reported earlier were not LA County residents. As of today, 733 people who tested positive for COVID-19 (21% of positive cases) have been hospitalized at some point during their illness.
Please note: Los Angeles County Department of Public Health report now includes cases by cities. Report for City of Rolling Hills Estates indicates case numbers are suppressed (between 1 and 4 cases in communities <25,000 people).

What should I do if I have symptoms and think I may have been exposed to novel coronavirus?
Most people with respiratory infections like colds, the flu, and coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will have mild illness and can get better with appropriate home care and without the need to see a provider. People who are elderly, pregnant, or have a weak immune system, or other medical problems, are at higher risk of more serious illness or complications. The County recommends that you monitor your symptoms closely and seek medical care early if your symptoms worsen.
If you are having difficulty breathing or keeping fluids down, go to an emergency room or call 911. Otherwise, it is better to call your doctor before going in to seek care. Have non-emergency questions, dial 2-1-1 to speak with the Los Angeles County information center.
You should also call a doctor if you have had close contact with a person who has COVID-19.
