Rabbi Silverman's January Message

The winter months, and particularly the time around the winter holidays, can be very difficult for people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or addiction. If someone in your family or one of your friends or colleagues seems to be struggling, please reach out. No one should suffer alone.

If you are struggling with mental illness, please do not hesitate to reach out to someone you love, to me [please insert hyperlink], to a medical professional, or if needed, to the suicide hotline: 800.273.TALK.

We all know it is a Jewish obligation to care for the sick. And fortunately we are pretty good at reaching out when someone is in the hospital or has the flu. We also need to fully see and support people who are wrestling with mental illness. We can be a part of fighting the stigma and changing lives.

Thank you for all that you have done and will do. May you, your loved ones, and everyone in our extended IADS community, have a year of better health and newfound joy.

She earned a master's degree and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Michigan after receiving her bachelor's degree at Virginia Tech. She is active in the community gardening movement in Detroit, and is an authorized presenter of the Climate Reality Project, trained directly by former vice president Al Gore.

Thank you to everyone else who volunteers their time and energy to IADS. A lay-led congregation is only as strong as its volunteers.

We apologize for any names left off the list. Please let us know and we will recognize you next month.
Call for Mi Shebeirach

During our Shabbat morning worship, we read the names of people in our community who are in need of healing. As we invoke God's blessing, we also become more aware of the people who could use a little extra care. Please let us know if you would like us to read the name of a loved one.
Get Involved!

Clean House!
As we work to clean up and clear out in our Synagogue, we ask your cooperation. If you notice a spill, please wipe it up. If you drop crumbs, please clean them up. If you use the kitchen, please clean up. If you have extra papers or handouts, please take them home to recycle them. Just a reminder: please no food or drinks (other than water) are allowed on the 2nd floor. As we continue to create our welcoming communal home, please help us to keep it inviting.
