This week I'm thinking about ARTS & CULTURE (as always!), MEDITATION, GAZPACHO, and DRIVE-IN MOVIES. Read below for more info.

If you're looking for a way to get centered -- or for focusin g your life -- I'm available for hire for  one-on-one labyrinth walks or nature mandala-making (or both!) , all done with masks and physical distancing. And, as always, I'm offering virtual  Life Path Sessions ; see more about those here To book me for anything, please call me at 713.492.1173. I'd love to help you find PEACE in this crazy time.

We are in what I call a "pandemic pandemonium" and trying times like these call for peaceful help. Thankfully there are some wonderful MEDITATION events happening for kids & adults
I make a delicious ton of GAZPACHO SOUP every summer that I share with friends, and since ya'll are my friends, my recipe is
here ! It's super yummy and great when it's hot outside

And as you may know, I love DRIVE-IN MOVIES (a perfect activity during COVID!), and I love telling my followers about them. The Houston Museum of African American Culture is hosting "HMAAC Movies at Sunset" on select Saturdays with outdoor screenings at the Shrine of the Black Madonna. Tickets go extremely fast, so here's the upcoming schedule; click on the film title for the $10 tickets: "Carmen Jones" (August 15), "The Five Heartbeats" (August 22); and "Do the Right Thing" (September 5). Speaking of movies, movie theatres are suffering right now. Please check out this #SaveYourCinema effort organized by the National Association of Theatre Owners to get Congress to help out.

Below are the two virtual events I am PICK-ing this week. As always, I'll still focus on one arts or culture organization that is open (further below), so doncha worry: you can still venture out with my help. Please note that all of these PICKS are always Houston-based events because my commitment to Houston arts & culture arts is never-ending!

➡️ Virtual for ADULTS: Every summer, I make sure I get my butt over to the MATCH to see what crazy fun Tamarie Cooper and Catastrophic Theatre have cooked up for their annual show. This year is, of course, a virtual affair -- "Tamarie Cooper's 2020: Quarantine Edition!" -- and it's being presented over 3 weekends, starting this Friday, July 31. See the hilarious trailer here and get your pay-what-you-can tickets here

➡️ Virtual for KIDS: The Contemporary Arts Museum is currently closed to the public, but they are dropping some cool online family-friendly events that are free. This weekend, Saturday, August 1, kids can make a zine or make a journal.

My ⭐️ARTS PICKS Spotlight⭐️ this week is the National Museum of Funeral History, which is open daily. They have a large collection of historical and international mourning rituals as well as present-day funeral artifacts. The museum has 15 permanent exhibits as well as rotating special exhibits. I've been there a few times (it's great during the Halloween season!) and it's very interesting.

UPDATES ON GISH PICKS:
In non-pandemic times, and since I started publishing my blog in 2004, it has been a space to promote my curated list of unique live Houston area cultural events (PICKS) on the weekend for adults and kids. Because of COVID-19, those haven't happened since mid-March so I originally re-worked the format to focus on 5 Houston-based arts & culture organizations in my (Almost) Daily Dose of ARTS PICKS blog each of the NINE weeks of quarantine. You can see each edition - and read about 45 arts groups! - here.

And now I'm bringing you an  ⭐️ ARTS PICKS Spotlight ⭐️ each  week -- featuring an arts & culture space that is open -- and you'll get info about all of their activities and sometimes a video to bring them to life. Alongside that, I'll also be PICK-ing one virtual event each for ADULTS and KIDS

I'll keep doing all of that until public events start happening again on a larger scale and I can start curating live event PICKS again.

In the meantime: please enjoy my weekly Spotlights and VIRTUAL PICKS, and please stay healthy!

Sincerely,

Sarah Gish

P.S. If you want to IGNITE YOUR LIFE now or anytime, check out my list of "12 Ways to Ignite Your Life Daily" -- and watch the 12 videos I recently made about each Way  here. I'm very proud of that list and my work and I hope it will help you live a fully creative life.
