Juneteenth

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. This event took place two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which established that all enslaved people in the Confederate states “shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free.” Today, Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African-American holiday. On June 17, 2021 it officially became a federal holiday.

Research Opportunity

A recent MUSM grad, Andrew Hearn, MD is working on a wellness systematic review project and is looking for students to assist in his research. The study focuses on the effectiveness of wellness interventions for medical students, residents, and fellows. Currently, they are looking for help extracting the data from related studies for analysis. Students will be properly trained in extraction techniques and listed as an author, provided they meet the minimum authorship requirements. If interested, contact Dr. Hearn.
