Monthly News from the President's Palette
Happy New Year to our FAEA Family around the state! Having some time to reflect on our past year and making plans for the upcoming 2020 year in my profession, at home, and leading FAEA has been poignant. I’ve had time to catch up on reading, and found an interesting article in the January 2020 edition of Art Education , titled “What is Home to You?: A Collaborative Found-Object Sculpture Installation Under Award-Winning Syrian- American Artist and Architect Mohamad Hafez,” written by Sara Orr Poskas. In the article, inspirational ideas started to form revealing a special collaborative project to promote the potential of art as fostering world peace. Because of technology, our world is interconnected, and we see the rise of globalization impacting every aspect of our lives. We, as art educators (and parents), become the source of inspiration that promotes the role of compassion, acceptance of multiple perspectives, and the implementation of meaningful connections through art-making. This type of empathy building is a core value embedded in our curriculum, opening a gate to Social Emotional Learning (SEL). I see our work as a collective thread in a global tapestry of positive social awareness and creativity. Together, 2020 will transform how we know, create, communicate, and share the visual arts to the world! Welcome to the ‘living installation’ that is the FAEA Home !
