Dear Bet Torah Family:

So much has changed in one week. The mental telescope we use to plan for the future has retracted to a view of today and maybe tomorrow. We are not hurtling ourselves around in cars, trains and subways but shuffling within circumscribed square feet.

And here is what we need to know:

None of us have done this before. We are just trying to figure it out. We were not built to incorporate this much change and uncertainty this quickly. Some people's income is done. Some people's lives are at risk. All of our plans and expectations are upended. We are doing our best. We are trying to find our best selves in this.

All we ever have is today. That was true before. It feels more true now. Be kind to yourself so you can be kind to others. We are all trying to figure it out.

I wrote an article reflecting on what its been like to think about community in this new context. You can read in on JTA HERE.

Beautiful things are also revealing themselves like the congregant who hired Chef Rene Leon to cook shabbat meals which will be delivered by our caring committee to particularly isolated congregants and mourners.

And we are now a community online. I invite you to see the page of options Rabbi Sacks put together  HERE.

Two examples coming up today:

"Ask the Rabbis" - Thursday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 25, noon - 1:00 pm Is there a question about Judaism or Jewish life you've always wanted to ask? Now's your chance. Rabbis Brusso and Sacks will be hanging out on Zoom, waiting to field your questions. Even better: send your question to Rabbi Brusso ([email protected]) or Rabbi Sacks ([email protected]) in advance. Eating lunch while participating is encouraged!  Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/651450401

"Happy Hour Meditation" - Thursdays, March 19 & 26, 5:00 - 6:00 pm  Join together with other Bet Torah members for an hour of contemplative practice and communal support. Led by Rabbi Sacks and Robin Wald. Bring your refreshment of choice.  Zoom link:

If you have never used Zoom before, just click the link when the time comes and we will provide you with a quick tutorial before we begin.

Sending you love from your Bet Torah family.
