A Letter from Mrs. Mares
Dear Notre Dame of De Pere Families,

I look forward to updating you on items not related to COVID in hopefully the near future, but at this point, it remains a high-priority topic within our school. In the last week, we have seen a significant increase in general illness, testing, and subsequent quarantines within our school community. The numbers of positives and quarantines are updated daily on our school dashboard. This has looked like household members testing positive resulting in individual student quarantines or a student testing positive resulting in increased vigilance or quarantines caused from school contact.

To date, wearing masks has allowed two full classrooms to not quarantine but an additional class is quarantined due to potential spread within the school. Our office fields between 5-10 individual inquiries each morning regarding contact tracing, quarantines, testing, and return dates. We are seeing most of this action in our PK through 3rd grade students.

This week our elementary grades have moved desks back into rows and columns to increase distancing. We are also adding overflow tables into the commons to increase distancing in the lunchroom. As we continue to monitor closely and strategically add layers of precaution, we need your help as well.

Keep your child home if they are sick. Doing so will help keep everyone healthy and allow us to avoid monitoring temperatures and symptoms when students arrive in the morning
If you are not sure if your child should be at school, use the GRACE Return to School flow chart, call GRACE nurse line, or call the school office BEFORE sending your child to school. I recognize it is inconvenient to not have an answer at times by 7:30 am but it is an unfortunate reality of our times
Send your child to school with a mask and backups in their backpack. We have given out over 150 masks to students in the past 3 days. This is not necessary or sustainable.

Respectfully,

Molly Mares
Principal, Notre Dame of De Pere

Grandparents Day - Oct. 13
GRANDPARENTS DAY--October 13, 2021

Please pass along the message to your child’s grandparents/grandfriends of our upcoming Grandparents Day Mass and Gathering. Grandparents are invited to join our school mass on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 8:35. This school mass will be held in the gym to allow for additional seating. Masks will be required.

Grandparents should enter through our main entrance doors on Superior Street after 8:05am. Please make this clear to our grandparents as drop-off will be busy on the block until this time. After mass, our guests are welcome to visit classrooms with their grandchildren until 10:30am.
Part-time PK4 Aide
Part-time PK4 Aide

Notre Dame of De Pere is searching for an additional part-time Aide to support our PK4 programs, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:30-3:30 on days students are in session. This position will support the classroom teachers, provide a safe, caring environment, assist with project prep work, supervise students, and other duties as assigned. This role is employed by the GRACE system and would be a perfect fit for someone who loves working with young children and would enjoy having a schedule the aligns with the school year. If you are interested, please call our school office or contact [email protected] as soon as possible!
MAPs Testing September 8 - 30
MAPs Testing Window: 9/8/21 - 9/30/21
Starting this next week, your child will begin taking tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of math, science, reading, and language arts. Your child will take these tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.

A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind. Here are some guidelines for successful testing
  • Get plenty of sleep throughout each week.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Arrive at school on time
  • Please avoid unnecessary absences.

ND Fundraising
Dear Notre Dame Families,

Welcome to the new school year at Notre Dame of De Pere!

As the school year begins, so do the opportunities to get involved at the school! We have many wonderful activities throughout the year. Some are fund-raisers to meet our Third-Source Funding Goal of $135,000, some are FUN-raisers to bring our families together, some are in support of our Athletics Department, teachers and staff, and some to support Home and School. ALL are to support Notre Dame of De Pere! We would not be such a fantastic school without the volunteer support of our school families!

Please note that at Notre Dame of De Pere, all K-8 two-parent families are expected to fulfill 20 school service hours. Single parent families are expected to fulfill 10 school service hours. It is requested that half of the service hours (10 hours for two parent families, 5 hours for single parent families) will be dedicated to one of the Priority Activities - any event listed under the Priority Activities below.

Cub Scouts
Welcome Scouting Families (1st through 5th Graders):

On behalf of the Cub Scouts, I welcome each and every one of you and look forward to helping you create lifelong skills and memories with your child. I am Chip McDonald, the Pack Leader for Troop 4038, the local troop from St. Mary/St. Françis Notre Dame.

I would like to welcome our newcomers to be a part of the great scouting tradition and invite our returns to share their knowledge and experiences this year with our new families and scouts. We will be having an introductory meeting Wednesday, September 22nd in the Notre Dame Gym from 3:15 to 3:45 and again at 4:30 to 5:00. We hope you can attend one of these meetings with your scout. No uniforms needed. If you cannot attend and you are interested please email me at [email protected]

Meetings on a Pack level allow your children to spend time with children on multiple grade levels and develop relationships and skills that will last a lifetime.

Actives we will be doing as a Pack this year include:
  • Rain gutter regatta ( November)
  • Pinewood Derby ( January)
Each Den will hold 4 to 6 meetings (in total approximately 10 hours) over the course of the school year focused on outdoor activities for the kids.

We will do our best to schedule all meetings so they do not interfere with other sporting or after school activities.

I look forward to seeing you all at our meeting September 22nd.
