A Message from Your Pastors
“Happy are those who do what is right…” Matthew 5:6
I love football!!! Sadly, we only have a couple games left this season!! Now, you might ask, how does a girl from Honduras learn to love football?
Well, it all started when I came to Michigan as an exchange student. After getting over the shock of going from Honduras to Michigan, I realized that the family I lived with had a strange ritual. Every Sunday they would come home from church, dress comfortably and turn on the TV to watch the Chicago Bears play football. They were avid fans, with all sorts of enthusiasm for their team. At first, I would watch the game, it did not make any sense to me. I did not understand its purpose and objective, it looked like a bunch of guys hitting each other. However, I started asking questions. Why are they doing that? Why did the referee blow the whistle? What are they doing now? What is a field goal? On and on they patiently answered all my questions. Football, a very different game than soccer!
You know, in the times that we live, we often are faced with people who are different than ourselves, people who act and behave in strange ways. I wonder what would happen if we trained ourselves, like I did as a 17-year-old exchange student, to begin to ask questions of what we do not understand; asking questions of people we deem different than us. We might not agree with one another, but we are able to come together in conversation. The objective is not to convince one another, but to gather at the table for conversation.
There are many differences in the American culture from the Honduran culture, but I have learned to enjoy the best of both cultures. I am the richer for experiencing both. I keep asking questions of those things I do not understand.
May God bless you this week! See you in church this weekend!
Blessings,

Disinfectant Fogger
Thank you, Leo & Facilities Team, for keeping our church building safe and clean for us to visit and worship in! An extra special thank you to them AND our Trustees who have researched and found even more ways! They have purchased a hospital-grade disinfectant fogger that not only kills the virus that causes CoVid-19 (and other viruses and bacteria), but it is mild, fragrance-free, and an allergen eliminator.

Get to Know: Kerry Hughes
Kerry Hughes is a Leader for the Recreation Ministry, Greeters, and the Chair Ministry (aka The Knuckle Busters). In 2019 he completed his three year term and the Chair for our Ministry Team. He is a Congregational Care Minister for Lake Deaton. Kerry is also a member of our ERT (Emergency Response Team) for our church along with working on LDUMC's landscaping and irrigation system.
Kerry belongs to four small groups - it is a great way to connect with Christians, better understand the Bible, and get closer to God. He and his small group also helped with the preparations for the Operation Shoebox last year.
There are a lot of neighbors outside The Villages who are hungry and need our help - he loves helping at the Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen
He has helped start up a nonprofit group, Pickleballers Serving Seniors. This group's focus is helping those in need, in our community who do not attend church. In Kerry's free time he plays pickleball, rides his bike, and lift weights.
Kerry and his wife, Karen have three daughters and four and a half grandchildren. They can't wait for the new grandson to arrive.

We believe that meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our church and neighbors is what showing the love of Christ is all about. If you are facing a challenge, have a prayer request, or want to serve as a volunteer, please let us know. In case of a death of a loved one or a hospitalization, let us know so a Care Minister can support you through this time.
For Prayer and Care Ministries needs, please email Denise Herzberg by clicking here.
We are now able to visit congregants in the hospital! Please let us know by calling the Care Department when you, a relative or a friend is in the hospital. We will schedule a visit from one of our pastoral team.
