NYSPMA Bestows Third Soave Award
On December 6, at the New York State Podiatric Medical Association (NYSPMA) downstate meeting,  Nicholas D'Angelo, DPM  ('89) was presented with the third  Ronald L. Soave, DPM, FACFAS  Integrity and Excellence in Podiatry Award . The award was presented by award founder  Corrine E. Renne, DPM  ('06) and NYCPM's Professor and Dean, Department of Podiatric Medicine,  Dr. Soave ('81). 
   Dr. D'Angelo (left in photo), a Trustee of NYSPMA and Chair of the Insurance Committee, played an integral role in podiatry's recent victory against a CMS proposal which would have discriminated against podiatrists by creating separate G codes for E/M billing. Source: PM News
Canadian Students Complete Course at NYCPM
Six senior podiatry students from Universit é du Qu é bec à Trois Rivi è res (UQTR) spent eight weeks at NYCPM in a course called Externship in Podiatry, in which they learned podiatric imaging, podopediatrics and podiatric medicine and surgery, and received certificates at a special luncheon on November 21 to acknowledge their accomplishment.

Six Alumni from Class of 1986 Hold Mini-Reunion at NYCPM

Alumni Glenn Silverstein, Robert Browse, Randy Wojciehoski, Andrew Shapiro and Richard Rimler in 1983.

They came from five states (as far as Arizona, Florida and Wisconsin) to tour the college and reminisce about old times on December 7th. They had dinner afterward, and were joined there by classmate Howard Rosas. Feeling "overwhelmed," the alumni decided to establish a "NYCPM Class of 1986" Student Scholarship.

Class of 1992 Graduate, Dr. Artopee, Dies 
Raymon Artopee, DPM ('92) passed away in October. He was in private practice in Hopewell, Virginia and is survived by his spouse, Valerie Artopee.  
Nuytens Demonstrates Making Orthoses
On December 5, Dominique Nuytens, General Director of the Institut National de Podolgie in Paris, led a session at NYCPM to speak about and demonstrate his method of fabricating orthoses. A group of interested students in the gait lab participated, accompanied by Loretta Logan, DPM ('89), Professor and Chair, Department of Orthopedics and Pediatrics; Paul Tremblay, Chief Medical Librarian, and Marie-Christine Bergeron, DPM, Clinical Instructor, Department of Surgery, were on hand to translate.

De La Mata Named Winner of Michael Stone Award
On November 6, Michael J. Trepal, DPM, VP of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean, announced Karla De La Mata (2020) as NYCPM's winner of this year's Michael L. Stone Outstanding Professional Conduct Award, presented by American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). The annual award is named after the late Michael L. Stone, DPM, a past president of ABFAS, and is presented each year to a graduating senior from each of the country's nine podiatric medical schools who exemplifies the highest standard of professionalism ... CIO Aman Safaei Honored

Aman Safaei, NYCPM's CIO, was honored at the meeting of the NYCPM Board of Trustees on December 13. Mr. Safaei, left, received the award from COO Joel Sturm, right, which was inscribed "In Recognition of Your Valued Contribution." Prior to the presentation, President and CEO Louis L. Levine described Mr. Safaei's modernization and money-saving achievements in the College's Information Services department.
Union Employees Hear NYCPM's Fox Discuss Podiatric Screenings 
On Saturday, December 7, 110 home care
employees attended a membership meeting of Local 389 Home Care Employees, DC 37, in midtown. They heard a presentation by

, who presented the FCNY Union Member Initiative Proposal and took questions regarding foot problems; Daniel Persons, FCNY Outreach consultant, distributed FCNY information about foot care for diabetics. The Union Member Initiative Proposal offers having podiatric histories taken and physical foot screening exams of union members conducted by NYCPM, FCNY and NYSPMA.

NJ Legislature Honors Dr. David George

David George, DPM ('72), NYCPM Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medical Science, is also Director of Continuing Medical Education at the Academy of Continuing Podiatric Education in Teaneck, NJ. The New Jersey Senate and General Assembly acknowledged the contributions of Dr. George, left, as well as those of Robert S. Marcus, DPM (President and Scientific Chairman of the Academy) in a  joint Legislative resolution on the Academy's 20 th anniversary. Dr. George is a New Jersey resident. Source: PM News

NYCPM Students Serve at Marathon
Several NYCPM students helped staff the podiatry tent at the 2019 New York City Marathon on November 3. Discovered there by the "other" Dr. Reidenberg, Dr. Joy Reidenberg's husband, Bruce Reidenberg, MD, who himself was volunteering at the finish line, the volunteering students were, left to right: Johnny Dong (2021); Nicholas Ciotola, DPM; Asma Jappar (2021); and Megan Kimmel (2021). Dr. Ciotola practices in Methuen, MA. Dr. Bruce Reidenberg was also the photographer.
NYCPM Trustee Invested as Dame in the 
Order of Malta
Recently, the title of Dame of Magistral Grace was given to Trustee Kathleen R. Fallon, DPM at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. Twelve people from the Archdiocese of New York were invested as Knights and Dames in the Order of Malta, a lay Catholic religious order. Dr. Fallon was presented with a box containing the insignia cross by Peter J. Kelly MD, KM, President of the American Association of the Order of Malta and Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley, who served as principal celebrant and homilist of the Investiture Mass.
