Rector's Ramblings

As I prepared for this season of Lent, I decided I wasn't going to give up as much as I usually do. Usually, I would pick out about three things and enter into the spiritual practice of fasting. This year I decided to be a bit more liberal and only chose one. Little did I know just how much we'd all be asked to give up during this season! Our fast from public gatherings, even small group gatherings in some cases, from dining out and movie theatres, and very shortly from a lot of other things, is intense, to say the least. And totally unexpected. Few of us, if any, have ever lived through anything quite like this, so we're all learning together.

Worship

Worship This Weekend
As we did last weekend, we will be livestreaming a 9:15 am Sunday eucharist on Facebook with staff-only participation. The service bulletin can be found here if you'd like to participate at home. The service will also be recorded and an email with the link will be sent out later in the week.

For those who would like to receive communion, please call the office to schedule a time for a private distribution (groups up to four persons at a time), following the Book of Common Prayer's "Communion Under Special Circumstances."
Please do not show up to church this weekend unless you have made a reservation for private distribution. We are not following our usual worship service pattern. You must schedule a time for communion. Again, do not show up without having made an appointment. Call the office at 912-638-8683 to make an appointment as follows:

Saturday - St. Ignatius:
We will see small groups (up to four persons) from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.  You must call to reserve a time.

Sunday - Christ Church: We will see small groups (up to four persons) from 8:00 am - 11:00 am.  You must call to reserve a time.
Worship Music This Week
From the Organist and Choirmaster

In this historic time, the world is currently experiencing that music is indeed a universal language. I will be finding creative ways to put this forth to our Christ Church family in the coming weeks.

You will find some of the music this Sunday centers around Psalm 23, the appointed Psalm for Lent 4. We will sing Hymn 645, The King of love my shepherd is; the Anthem is Shepherd Me, O God by Marty Haugen, and the music prior to the service will be a Prelude and Chaccone
that is based on the Anthem. A Chaccone is a piece of music built around a repeated harmonic progression.

Music during Communion will offer a piece entitled Healer of My Soul by John Michael Talbott. The Gospel this Sunday speaks to healing.

The Opening Hymn 686, Come thou fount of every blessing and Closing Hymn 690, Guide me, O thou great Jehovah can be found in the bulletin here. Sing with GUSTO!!

Cum laude digme (with joyful voice),
Kathleen
Evening Prayer
If you enjoy hearing Evening Prayer read, please look for it at 5:00 pm on the Christ Church Facebook page. We hope to have different readers and different settings, in the days ahead. The bulletin for evening prayer can be found here.
Easter Lilies
We will continue the annual tradition of decorating the the church for Eastertide this year, even if the circumstances are different. You can remember a loved one at Easter this year with a memorial Easter lily. Send the name(s) and a check for $30 for each memorial to Ethel Horton, 402 Palm Court, St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522. Make checks payable to "Christ Church Flower Guild." Please order by Monday, April 6, 2020. Contact: Ethel Horton at [email protected] or 912-634-8327

Tour of Homes Cancelled for 2020
We regret to inform you that the March 21, 2020, Christ Church Tour of Homes is canceled. This action was taken to help safeguard the health and well-being of our ticket holders, volunteers and homeowners. We elected to follow the lead other large events are taking in our region due to the coronavirus.

All proceeds from the Tour go directly to area charities primarily benefiting women and children. Cancellation will impact many programs that depend on our event. We hope you will consider donating all or part of your ticket purchase.

To receive a full or partial refund, or to donate, please visit the Tour of Homes website here. If you purchased a ticket from a local retailer, we ask that you provide the location of the purchase, whether the purchase was made with cash or a check, and ask you provide us with your mailing address. If you have questions, please call 603-969-1047.

We look forward to seeing you March 20, 2021, for the 68th Tour of Homes.

Mission
and Outreach

Helping the Community in Times of Need
We invite all parishioners to support community relief efforts as they are able. We are doing the same from the church's perspective and will continue to do so. Two things we are actively addressing are Backpack Buddies and support for the St. Athanasius food pantry. Backpack Buddies will now utilize small group packing teams working in small shifts with disinfectant precautions for all involved. We will distribute bags at schools while they distribute meals to students. If you can help support St. Athanasius' food pantry, the needs are great and expected to grow. Donations may be left on the front porch of the Christ Church Parish House at any time, or the back porch at St. Ignatius on Saturdays, during Communion hours, and we will deliver the food to Brunswick.

Two local non-profits (there are others) that will be doing good works to address this current crisis include:

FaithWorks - many of you know FaithWorks and their many outreaches, from The Well, to Sparrows Nest and much more.  https://faithworksministry.org

Firebox - a relief organization here in Glynn County, started by the folks as Southern Soul to support restaurant workers in need. Many restaurant works are or will soon be out of work.  https://ssbbqfirebox.com/mission/

Celebrating Our Friends at Christ Church
COVID-19 may have chased us all inside for the time being, but that's no reason we can't stay connected. This past Sunday, over 1,300 viewers watched the 9:15 am Eucharist service that was held live, on the Christ Church Facebook page, and nearly 100 more watched the recorded service later on YouTube. We're so happy to have everyone together in spirit and in love!
