DECEMBER HIGHLIGHT

Dear Community Gardeners,

With the shortest day of the year this week, I’ve been thinking about how important rest is -- for our physical, emotional, and mental well-being, as well as for the soil quality in our garden. I hope that you and your loved ones are able to rest and care for one another.

You all are a dynamic group of people, doing incredible work to connect youth to garden education! Many school and youth gardeners have shared with me that they would like a way to connect and learn from other gardeners in Guilford County.

For 2021 I plan to set up monthly School & Youth Garden Connection meetings, starting in February. We’ll meet first on Zoom, with the hope of eventually meeting outside in gardens. Interested?

Please share input on School & Youth Garden Connections for 2021: https://go.ncsu.edu/youthgarden2021!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

SAVE THE DATE: SEEDS TO SHARE 2021

Seeds to Share will happen in February 2021! Local garden centers and national seed companies have generously donated seeds for community and school gardens in Guilford County.

For 2021, our Seeds to Share event will look different:

  • Request seeds for your community or school garden through this form: https://go.ncsu.edu/seedrequest
  • Only fill out one form per garden -- please talk to your gardeners, or make your best guess about what everyone will need. Because all seeds are donated, we cannot guarantee your request -- but we'll do our best!
  • Volunteers will put together a bag of seeds for your garden.
  • Pick up the seeds for your community or school garden between February 13-19th, from either the N.C. Cooperative Extension Guilford County office or the High Point Public Library.

Do you have vegetable, herb, or flower seeds to share with other gardeners? Set up a time in January to share your seeds with Quina!

If you would prefer to talk to someone directly, call or email Quina Weber-Shirk, Community & School Garden Extension Agent at (336) 525-6112 (cell) or jjwebers@ncsu.edu.
