Give your body a spring cleaning!
In April, our thoughts turn to spring planting and new growth. Why not nurture your body as well? It's time to ensure you have all the proper nutrients, water and light to truly blossom into summer.
Ways to cleanse and detox
We can do things every day to keep our bodies cleansed and eliminate toxins.
Everyday Detox Ideas:
  1. Avoid processed food and eat lots of leafy green veggies
  2. Eat organic as much as possible
  3. Try juicing vegetables
  4. Drink teas that support detoxification, such as green, oolong, dandelion root and milk thistle
  5. Drink lemon water, especially first thing in the morning
  6. Switch to non-tox cleaning products and cosmetics
  7. Try medicinal mushrooms like Chaga, Lion's Mane, Shitake, Reishi, Turkey Tail and Cordyceps
  8. Try rebounding for exercise, which is great for your lymphatic system and supports detoxification
  9. Sweat!
  10. Get some serious sleep. Take chlorella at bed-time so it can get into the brain to detox and support the glymphatic system—the brain’s lymphatic system
  11. Keep your bowels open. Eating healthy can help, but also try magnesium supplements, prunes and coconut oil
  12. Use an infrared sauna
Inner Cleansing
Cleansing our minds and spirits can be as important as detoxing our physical bodies and organs. If meditation is new to you, consider taking a course or reading a book; plus, there are many free guided meditations on YouTube. Try those to get started. Daily practice is best, but any time you can find to sit quietly and clear your mind is helpful. Yoga or qigong can be good activities for centering the mind and spirit—while offering an opportunity to exercise.
Deeper Detox
In our toxic world, we all need more than daily detox support. Nature's Balance recommends a monthly weekend cleanse and a quarterly 7-day detox. Once a year, you can choose a longer 10-14 day more intense detox. Ask us for recommendations and supportive products to get you on a cleansing program for optimal health.
Spirulina and Chlorella
Nutrient-dense algae grown in mineral-rich pools of freshwater, spirulina and chlorella are considered rejuvenators and can improve energy levels. You can purchase them in powdered form to add to smoothies or capsules. Make sure only to buy organic as other forms can be contaminated with heavy metals.

Spirulina, a blue-green algae, is an excellent source of antioxidants, b vitamins, iron, copper and manganese and is considered one of the most nutrient-dense foods available. Research has shown it could improve fatty liver, lower triglycerides, improve glucose metabolism and alleviate rhinitis

Health Benefits:
Kale is high in fiber, has zero fat, and provides an amazingly high amount of magnesium and folate—two things many of us lack in our modern diets and can help with detoxing.

Celery offers clean flavor plus a surprisingly high number of enzymes and antioxidants.
Green Apple adds vitamin C, a note of subtle sweetness, plus it comes with the benefit of fiber. The fiber can improve your digestion plus help balance your cholesterol and manage blood sugar.
Ginger has cleansing qualities that stimulate digestion, circulation, and sweating, which helps to reduce the build-up of waste and toxins in the organs.

Coconut Water provides electrolytes that give your body hydration, especially after exercise.

Earth Day.
April 22
Earth Day is an annual event held every April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org, including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2022 is Invest In Our Planet.

Today, Earth Day is widely recognized as the largest secular observance globally. It is celebrated as a day of action by more than a billion people every year to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.

Now, the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency as the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day.
Putting some light on the Sunshine Protection Act
You may have heard that Congress is considering making daylight savings time permanent. Keeping one time year-round is indeed better for our bodies, but standard time is a better choice as it more closely aligns with our biorhythms. Daylight savings time would keep it lighter in the evenings but darker in the mornings. Our circadian clocks that control everything from hormones to digestion and other bodily functions will be negatively impacted as we require sunlight to kick off all of these processes. Sunrise on the longest day of the year would not occur until 8:15 am, way past the time we all wake up!
Noted neuroscience expert Dr. Andrew Huberman of Stanford University and head of Huberman Labs says, "Anything that gets people less light in the morning is a terrible idea. Anyone at the National Institute of Health who understands circadian rhythms knows that. There is no logic behind this idea."

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine also supports a switch to permanent standard time.

The potential for even more health issues is there if we continue down this path.

What can you do? Contact your local congressman and express your concerns about this legislation. Specifically, ask for a commitment to Standard Time.
