Board approves one change to semester schedule
During a special meeting on Nov. 17, the School Board voted to continue with the current school schedule with one change: Dec. 4, 11, and 18 will be used for limited virtual learning and teacher collaboration at the elementary schools.

Beginning the week after Thanksgiving, students in grades K-5 will attend classes in-person Monday through Thursday. Students in grades 6-12 will continue with the A/B schedule. Early Childhood students will attend 5 days each week.

The decision came after a presentation by Superintendent Dr. Mike Slagle and comments by patrons in attendance at the meeting at Ray-Pec High School. Presentation to School Board
Review changes to the 2020-2021 calendar
The School Board approved designating Dec. 4, 11, and 18 as limited virtual learning days for elementary students. On those three Fridays, students in grades K-5 will not attend school in-person. There will be limited virtual instruction, and the remainder of the day will be used for teacher collaboration. (The schedule for ViPR students remains unchanged.)

End of semester
The School Board voted to have Friday, Dec. 18, as the last day of the semester for students. Dec. 21 and 22 will be teacher work days. (The original calendar had an early release day on Dec. 23 to end the semester.)

Winter Break
Schools will not be in session Dec. 21 through Jan. 5 for Winter Break.

Second semester
As of today (Nov. 20), the second semester is scheduled to begin with a staff work day on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, Jan. 6. District administrators will continue to monitor the number of COVID-19 cases and make possible adjustments to the calendar as needed.
Board approves facility plan for 2021 to 2031

The School Board on Nov. 19 approved the new Long Range Facility Plan for 2021-2031. The plan, which includes input from community stakeholders, is based on current and anticipated future needs.

The plan includes information about projects under consideration, which include:
  • Additional capacity at the high school level - Phase One - Freshman Center. (In the future, this could be converted to a Second Comprehensive High School.)
  • Significant maintenance needs - Including asphalt and concrete, playground spaces, heating and cooling, and roof repairs.
  • Performing Arts Center
  • Tennis Courts
  • Career Oriented Education Programming
  • Additional Elementary School
Work on the plan began in mid-2019 and included Ray-Pec educators, city planners, architects, and demographers. A number of community presentations were conducted to gather public feedback on priorities.
