November 11, 2020
Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
At Dorchester, we truly believe that you are your child's first, last, and most important teacher. We know that, in order to make this year as successful as possible for your child, it is essential to work as a team with you to build a strong connection between home and school. If ever a question or concern should arise, we want you to feel comfortable to reach out to your child's teachers and share your insight with us. Conversely, we will do the same.
With this in mind, our November parent-teacher conference days look different in fifth grade than they do in the younger grades at Dorchester. Dorchester’s annual Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24, 2020. The fifth grade team is currently reaching out via email to the parents of students for whom they have academic concerns in order to prioritize conferences with those families. These conferences will all occur virtually through Google Meet or Zoom. If your child is meeting grade level expectations, the teachers may not request a formal conference with you. If this changes at any point in the year, the teachers will reach out to you. Additionally, you are always welcome to reach out to your child's teachers to schedule an appointment to discuss your child's progress at any time during the school year.
Please note that school will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. on November 23, 24, and 25 on a regular morning schedule; however, there will be no special area classes held 1:30-2:30 on those days. Additionally, there will be no reading or math support classes held on those afternoons.
We look forward to open lines of communication, a strong school-home partnership, and a successful year for all of the fifth graders.
Sincerely,
Stefanie Marsich
