Greetings, Families!
February was filled with chaos and joy as we prepared for Fine Arts Night; these students are simply amazing. They worked hard, shared creative ideas, and collaborated to create beautiful and meaningful music. In case you weren't able to join us, here are some of the songs we sang:
A few of our Fine Arts Songs:
Ask your child about their favorite song!!
Musicians of the Month
- SistaStrings! This amazing sister duo from Milwaukee, WI, is becoming famous for their unique combinations of classical and modern music. They've performed with Black Violin, Lupe Fiasco, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and more. Check out a song:
SistaStrings - Goodbye
Looking ahead...
3rd Grade:
Students will soon be gifted recorders and begin learning how to play this woodwind instrument, using an instrument that was developed 400+ years ago to play modern music. It will be noisy and so much fun!
4th Grade:
Students will continue work on ukulele and keyboards, working on some music of their choice and participating in Song Shares (singing, playing, or sharing a song with the class).
5th Grade:
Students will focus on collaborative music, working together to create lyrics, rhythms, melodies, and more to tell a creative story. Toward the end of the school year they will perform an "Open Mic" for their classmates.
Enjoy this busy season of life!

Book Bowl
The 4th and 5th grade Book Bowl teams are working hard on preparing for competition! They have weekly opportunities now until the competition to meet with their teams to practice and discuss the books.
Final tips:
- Students will want to learn the names of ALL authors as titles get 5 points and authors get 3 extra points! Book Bowl Title and Author Lists
- All the questions will start with “In which book…?” and will be answered by a title from the list.
- Teammates can tell each other the plots of the Book Bowl books they have read and create sample questions from the books and quiz each other.
- Students should try to complete at least 2 books for 4th grade and 3 books for 5th grade before the competition on March 12th!

Marquette Elementary School will again be participating in the Maynard’s Lil’ Ducks Reading Program presented by TDS. In coordination with Marquette Elementary School, the Mallards have set up a program to help encourage your child to increase their time spent reading.
Here’s how it works:
- Your child’s classroom teacher will set your child’s daily or weekly reading goal.
- A 4-week reading tracker calendar will go home February 21.
- When your child reaches the reading goal for four weeks, the Mallards will provide your child with TWO free Mallards game tickets to our school’s Family Night at the Duck Pond on Tuesday, May 26th at 6:05 PM, plus a prize.
Family Night:
- Your school’s family night is Tuesday, May 26th at 6:05 PM and tickets will only be valid for this game. Lapham has the same family night so families can attend together.
- $9 discounted tickets are available for purchase for all additional family and friends.
- All tickets will be available for pick up on the night of the game at your school’s designated Will Call table.
We hope you will join us in encouraging your child to complete the 2019 Maynard’s Lil’ Ducks Reading Program. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to Marquette librarian, Maegan Heindel at 204-3229 or

Damaged, Lost or Stolen Devices - Student Chromebooks
|
|
Damaged, Lost or Stolen Devices
MMSD understands that accidents may happen with devices. If a student damages a device due to lack of proper care or intentional misuse, the student/family will be responsible for the repair or replacement cost.
Offense Price
1st Offense $50
2nd Offense $100
3rd Offense Price of Chromebook
If a Chromebook is stolen, the student/family must submit a police report to the school Principal or Library Media Technology Specialist within 48 hours of discovering the theft. If the proper documentation is not submitted, student/family will be held responsible for the stolen Chromebook.
Chromebooks are equipped with trackable software (GPS locator) that can be enabled if a device is lost or reported as stolen. The software is only activated when:
- Requested by school administrator, in most cases, because the device has been lost on campus.
- The device is reported as lost or stolen by parent.
If the device is lost or damaged beyond repair, the district will charge the student
based on the fee schedule, per Board of Education Policy 3710 (Fees, Rentals, and Fines).
