Jay was a lifelong Californian. He grew up in San Francisco, attended Cal Berkeley, and moved to Pasadena for his work as a electrical engineer for the Navy designing control systems for underwater vehicles. He met Barbara at the Lab. Their marriage produced two daughters, Ann and Carol. When the job transferred to Pt. Loma, the family relocated to San Diego, looked around and fell in love with Del Mar, building a house and moving in in 1974.
An outdoors man, Jay has hiked and panned for gold all over California and Alaska. He also loved metal detecting, and in retirement became a familiar figure patrolling the Del Mar beach at least twice a day. Also a whiz at bridge, he played whenever he got the chance, and really missed his friends and the weekly games at the Powerhouse when the quarantine made them impossible.
