2018 Diatom "Bar-M Vineyard" Chardonnay
Los Alamos Valley, Santa Barbara County, California
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greg Brewer describes the 2018 vintage in Santa Barbara County as "epic" and he nailed it with this single-vineyard Chardonnay! Boasting an intense array of stone fruit, citrus and mineral flavors along with a punch of salinity on the long, refreshing finish, the 2018 Diatom "Bar-M" offers the concentration of California with a shot of Chablis-esque flair!
Earning a quartet of rather raving 93 and 92-point reviews from Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast, Jeb Dunnuck and Vinous, this is  one of the absolute best Chardonnay values in California and very possibly the world...
"The 2018 Chardonnay Bar-M has an open nose of quince, warm hay, green apple and pear, baker's yeast, acacia and dried chamomile with white peach and nectarine plus hints of lime peel and crushed stone. Light to medium-bodied, it has a wonderful core of spicy fruit and wicked minerality in the mouth, amplified by juicy freshness and a long, energetic, layered finish. Yum! Drink Date: 2020 - 2030."
- 93 Points, Wine Advocate (9/12/2019)
"From a vintage described as epic from Greg, the 2018 Chardonnay Bar-M comes from a vineyard just off Highway 101 and vines planted in 1996. It offers Chablis-like lemon notes as well as hints of tropical fruits, a medium-bodied, rounded, textured style on the palate, beautiful fruit, and a clean finish."
- 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (10/31/2019)
"From a vineyard in the Los Alamos Valley, this bottling by Greg Brewer begins with fresh aromas of passion fruit, citron, lime leaf and wet cement. The palate is tightly wound with slightly sour tones of guava peel, presenting a very fresh, no-oak style that still has plenty of character."
- 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast (9/1/2019)
"From a site in Los Alamos, the 2018 Chardonnay Bar M is perfumed, lifted and wonderfully gracious in feel. Citrus and floral notes abound in a very pretty, expressive Chardonnay that shows the aromatic style that is so common here. White flowers, mint and saline overtones add closing layers to this pretty and inviting Chardonnay from Greg Brewer's Diatom label. Drinking Window: 2020 - 2029."
- 93 Points, Vinous - Antonio Galloni (9/2019)
A Seriously Delicious Red Burgundy for a Wonderfully Low Price!
2017 Domaine Poulleau Père et Fils  Bourgogne Rouge
Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Run by the second-generation husband and wife team of Thierry and Florence Poulleau, Domaine Poulleau is best known for their  sensational high-end bottlings. Today, however, we feature their smartly priced everyday Bourgogne Rouge - a wine that offers head-spinning flavors at an eye-poppingly good price.

From our first taste, we loved the traditional Burgundy flavors of sour cherry, wild strawberry, red flowers and gritty earth. Medium in body with a very long finish, this tasty Pinot Noir simply screams for a nice piece of seared tuna

The care taken by Thierry and Florence shines through very brightly in the glass. After being harvested by hand from their  vineyards in Volnay, Meursault and Savigny-lès-Beaune, the wine was treated to a year in oak cask before bottling. This is a real-deal red Burgundy, and it seriously outperforms its price.

Looking online we found a single listing for the 2015 vintage of this wine at $25. Ours is the only listing right now for the 2017. On our conservative scale, this is an enthusiastic 91+ points. It is one of those rare values from Burgundy, and should be snapped up to be enjoyed now and over the next three years.
