Coalition Spotlight: Thank You for Healthy Start

To whom it may concern:
Healthy Start has been a huge blessing to me during my pregnancy and beyond. I struggled with anxiety and depression two years ago and was worried that it would come back. When I heard Healthy Start offered services to help with depression and postpartum depression, I knew that I needed it. When I first met my Care Coordinator, Valerie, she instantly reminded me of one of my childhood mentors. She was so kind and friendly during our first visit. I looked forward to our next one. Knowing someone was going to visit me and check on me regularly, gave me peace and I no longer worried about postpartum. I have not struggled with anxiety or depression. Healthy Start services have been the biggest factor. Valerie has become a friend and I know she truly cares for me and my baby. As a first time mom, it has been a blessing to have someone I can call or text anytime with questions or concerns. And as a stay-at-home mom, it's such a blessing to know someone comes to visit me regularly. Valerie keeps me from getting lonely, and I believe that has kept postpartum depression at bay. There have been so many changes in my life this year, but Valerie and Healthy Start have been a constant and that has been invaluable. Thank you for Healthy Start, for the amazing services you provide! I'm sure I'm not the only woman who's life has been changed by you.

January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month
January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month. The theme for 2020 is "Best for You. Best for Baby." Not all birth defects can be prevented but women can take certain steps to can increase their chances of having a healthy baby by being their healthiest self both before and during pregnancy. What is best for mom is also best for baby.

Marion County Baby Shower Event
The 4th annual Marion County World's Greatest Baby Shower event will be held on Thursday, January 23rd with two sessions available. The first session will be from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and the second session will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The event will be held at 3300 NW 10th Street in Ocala, Florida. There will be exhibits, games, a scavenger hunt, prizes and more!
Suwannee Community Baby Shower Event
The Suwannee Community Baby Shower event will be held on Saturday, February 1st from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Suwannee Coliseum located at 1302 11th Street SW in Live Oak, Florida. The event is for expectant mothers, dads and families with a child under the age of one. There will be exhibits, games, prizes, free gifts and more!
Alachua County Baby Shower Event
The 16th annual Jesse "Sam" Butz World's Greatest Baby Shower even twill be held on Saturday, February 22nd from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Westwood Middle School located at 3215 NW 15th Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. The event is free admission and provides educational sessions, exhibits, prize giveaways and more!

Greetings,
It's the year 2020 - a leap year, the 20th year of the 3rd millennium, the 20th year of the 21st century, the start of another decade and I'm hopeful it's going to be a great year for Healthy Start!
The legislative session starts early this year on Tuesday, January 20th with Children's Week kicking off on Sunday, January 26th at the Capitol Rotunda. So far, it looks as though Healthy Start funding should remain the same this fiscal year (Healthy Start funding remained the same in the Governor's budget that was released to the public on November 18, 2019). Our legislative visits have been very positive thus far and we're hopeful we'll avoid any surprises this legislative session.
Cheers to another year of helping our youngest population in Florida have a Healthy Start in life!
