APRIL 2021 NEWSLETTER
Greetings from HON
COME IN AND SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING AT HON!

While we are truly delighted to see blooming
daffodils, forsythia and budding trees outside, we're excited for you to see what we picked
up at The Atlanta Market in March. It was the first in-person
wholesale show since the pandemic and it was wonderful to
re-connect with some of our vendors and other retailers. A selection
of the new canvases are pictured below but pop in to see them all. Canvases we ordered are arriving daily.

We are also excited to be hosting an Anne Fisher Needlepoint Trunk Show this month. It's full of fun backgammon boards (with stitchable dice cups), purse/clutches (including the Goyard inspired design in many colors), purse straps, pillows, eyeglass cases, key fobs and ornaments.

STITCH OF THE MONTH
LAID FILLING
Adorable Pippin Studio Bear Stand-Ups
were stitched by Mabel. The background she chose looks awesome and enhances, the already fun, Pippin bears.
PLEASE NOTE: when working a laid stitch, or any stitch where a thread is going over several, or more holes, using stretcher bars or a frame is strongly advised. If the canvas is not held consistently taut the stitches will not look even.
The first step is to lay the long stitches vertically as shown at the far left. The project above was done with a pale blue Neon Rays ribbon. Then horizontal stitches were worked over the laid thread in two shades of Silk Lame Braid. The darker was worked on a slight diagonal, three in a vertical line and the lighter blue, in between the darker blue, is done in two straight horizontal stitches on top of each other.
TIP OF THE MONTH
Granddogs are Special too!
Have our artist, Katherine, paint yours.
Our pet's may be considered "woman's best friend" but they are also a stitcher's best friend. My Lulu curls up at my feet or next to me on the sofa while I stitch and also reminds me it's time to get up and move around. "Walk me please!"

Lately, we've noticed customers asking for custom dog and cat canvases, mostly ornament size but larger pieces as well. Our in house artist, Katherine, painted my daughter's dog, Clarence, as a round ornament. Luckily, I showed her the canvas before I started stitching. She wasn't thrilled by the ornament idea as she wanted to have it out all year. Katherine painted it out as far as the canvas allowed and it worked wonderfully as a pillow insert.
She's so good at
painting pets!

NEW CLASS OFFERING
We continue to have customers asking to learn new stitches so we will offer a new sampler
class this Spring. It is the
perfect opportunity for advanced beginners or experienced stitchers to learn new stitch techniques.
Students will work with the instructor to choose colors and stitches. A unique use for your canvas could be this tic tac board seen here. If you choose to make a pillow, a monogram can be painted in the center or any square to personalize your project. In addition to using multiple stitches, a myriad of fibers and colors of your choosing will be used.

Please call 203-655-9112
or email us: houseofneedlepoint@gmail.com respond to this email to inquire and/or sign-up.
