MONDAY MEMO
5th grader Lila Yerkes presented and displayed all that she'd learned about Joy Adamson at Biography Fair on Friday, to a wonderful audience of classmates, parents, friends, and 8th graders.
Greetings!

What fun we had on Friday and Saturday! Thanks to everyone who joined the audience for Biography Fair, joined the spirit of the Recess Relay, and joined in giving to the Super Raffle. We appreciate you!

There's lots of detail below about overnight field trips, which we put all the way at the bottom so that you wouldn't be distracted for the other important items, 4-5th grade in green,
6-8th grade in blue.

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
SUNSCREEN
We continue to spend as much time as we can outdoors, and encourage our K-8 students to apply sunscreen at midday, and/or before an outdoor activity. Students can bring their own or use supplies we have at school. If this is important to you, please make that expectation clear with your children. If you do not want us to use the variety of products we have at school, please let your child's teacher know directly. Preschool has a different set of parameters around topical applications, if you have any questions about that, please reach out to McKenna.
LIBRARY BOOKS
As we approach the end of the year we would like to collect and re-organize all of Riverside's library books as well as each teacher's classroom library. Please search your homes for any texts that might belong to us and return them.
RELAY FUNDS FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Riverside Against Cancer Relay on Friday afternoon. The weather was beautiful, the energy was inspiring and a great time was had by all. We would like to send out a special thank you to The Lyndonville Redemption Center for donating water and ice to help keep all of us hydrated and to DJ Rousseau for the great music we enjoyed throughout the event. Remember to finish your fundraising campaign and bring your collection envelopes in to Caroline or Krystal by Tuesday of this week -- tomorrow!. Stay healthy and strong.
A NOTE FROM ROY
I hope you received my email message yesterday regarding the rise in local COVID cases and the implications on our overnight field trip plans.

We are feeding 20 people from May 24-June 3, so it takes a village! If you like to cook, feel free to sign up for that, if you would rather spend some time setting up or cleaning up and chatting with everyone, that is another option. This year we also have the option of donating containers for the staff to take home leftovers in as well. Thank you so much for helping do this - Riverside staff looks forward to this every year. Sign Up at this link.
STUDENT COUNCIL SUMMER PARTY & DANCE
Student Council is hosting a whole school party on Friday the 27th. We are hoping to have lots of grilled food, but for this to work we will need grills and people who can grill. If you are willing to donate your grilling time and/or your grill, please email Student Council President Camryn
PK-8 GRADUATION
Our 41st graduation ceremony will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 4. This is an event to honor the hard work and achievements of all our Preschool-8th grade students, as well as the culture of our kind and generous community that makes their success possible. The ceremony, which includes students processing through the cedars, choral performances from the porch of the house, a guest speaker, 8th grade speakers, awards for students of all ages, and a presentation of diplomas to the Class of 2022 is meaningful to all of us. That day is counted as school day and we hope that every student will attend with some members of their family.

The ceremony will be surrounded by student artwork on display and followed by a potluck lunch. We ask all families to bring a salad or main course dish to share. Please remember a serving utensil and mark all your personal items with your name. Please also plan to list the ingredients, we will have markers and cards available if necessary. Riverside will be providing drinks and a cake. Thank you to the 7th grade parents who will be setting up the potluck, so you can simply hand your dish to one of them in the barn when you arrive for the ceremony.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
4-5th GR TRIP TO THE FAIRBANKS
4-5th graders are going on their Spring Field Trip to an overnight at The Fairbanks Museum. Students should be dropped off at the museum on Wednesday morning at 8:00 am and be picked up there on Thursday at 3:00 pm. There is no option for Extended Day Program Thursday.

Accommodations: They will sleep on the floor of the museum, in the main hall (far from the large taxidermy exhibits) and in the classroom, with adults in both places.

Emergencies: In case of emergency, parents at home may get in touch via 5th grade teacher Hanna at 207-975-7177 or parent and museum staff member Karina Weiss at 914-588-5759.

About Phones and other Digital Devices: Students are not permitted to bring cell phones on the Field Trip. We want to encourage students to interact with each other in person, in large and small groups, and within ear- and eye-shot of adults. We will take plenty of pictures and share them. Should a student need to make a call, a chaperone will help them do so on their phone.

Schedule: Students should be dropped off at the museum on Wednesday morning at 8:00 am and be picked up there on Thursday at 3:00 pm.

Packing List: As ever, students should be prepared for a variety of terrain and temperatures. Please encourage your child to pack lightly and to label personal items with his/her name (especially those outer layers and carried items that tend to be dropped like bags, bottles, warm layers, rain coats), both efforts will make life on the trip easier for all of us.
