MONDAY MEMO
In assembly this morning we learned about the achievements of Mathcounts members 7th graders Gabi, Esme, and Leo, 6th graders Gabe, Ignacio, Sawyer, and Kellan. Read on about their recent successes below!
Greetings!

Spring is in the air and in our thoughts as we enjoy more time learning, eating, and playing outdoors and look forward to traditions like Festival of Poetry & Prose, the Super Raffle, and Biography Fair, as well as new events like the Recess Relay.

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
SERVICE CELEBRATION
Last week 7th graders Kingston, Phoebe, Brooklynn, and Isabel delivered bags of food, donated by the Bunnell family, and the $208.44 they raised from selling hot chocolate on campus to the Lyndon Area Food Shelf. Thank you to Caroline, who coached them, and to everyone who supported their efforts. Read more about their work here.
MATHCOUNTS SUCCESS
We’d like to recognize 6th graders Gabe Adams, Kellan Bristol, Sawyer Daffinrud, and Ignacio Montague. They entered a math video production challenge that enabled them to connect math to their everyday lives. Their video entitled, “Piri’s Trip to the Candy Store'' was completely original, with all music and other audio/visual effects created entirely by the 4 members of their team. They worked very well together, celebrating each other’s strengths and supporting each other through the whole process. Due to their dedication and hard work, creativity and excellent collaborative skills, their video was selected as a quarter finalist in the National competition and their team achieved The Gold Level of Excellence Award from The National Math Club. There are 13 math clubs registered with Mathcounts in the State of Vermont. Two other clubs have achieved Silver Level status but The Riverside School is the only school in the State who has achieved the Gold Level of Excellence Award. Great job Team Butterscotch x 4 and the whole Riverside School Mathcounts team. Thank you Caroline and parent Kim Adams (5th grader Cora and 6th grader Gabe) for volunteering your time to lead this club!
INTERPRETING CDC GUIDELINES
As mentioned in the previous announcement, we are now following the CDC’s stay-home and isolation protocols. If your child has been exposed, and most especially if you have a positive case in the home, we’d like to be kept in the loop. There are some situations (like an active case in the home) where we will ask for a few extra steps. Roy will gladly help you navigate that.

Also, we will continue to offer daily testing at school (or provide supplies for at-home testing) for as long as we can in the event of an on-campus exposure.

Lastly, while we will continue to reach out to families of students who are even potentially exposed on campus, we will no longer be sending community-wide announcements about individual cases.
3RD QUARTER REPORTS
Teachers have been working on assessments and communications about student progress. 3rd quarter reports will be sent home tomorrow. For elementary students they will be in boomerang folders, and for middle school students they will be given to the student during advisory meetings.
STANDARDIZED TESTING
6-8th grade students will begin computer-based standardized testing this week, and continue that work next week. 3-8th graders will conduct theirs after spring vacation. Please help students to understand that this should not be stressful, and will not have direct results that affect them. It is simply one tool Riverside uses to understand what students know and can do, and the results can help us to be better teachers and to target needs and goals for some individual students. Encouraging them to focus and to do their best will help us get the most accurate results.
  • 6th grade: Wednesday AM English, Friday AM English
  • 7th grade: Tuesday AM English, Thursday PM English
  • 8th grade: Monday AM English, Wednesday AM and PM Spanish, Thursday AM English
SWIMMING
As we continue to have positive COVID cases at Riverside and can't space or mask at the pool, we are going to cancel swimming for K-2nd graders again for this week. Thanks for understanding.
SPIRIT WEEK
Riverside Spirit Week will be next week, April 11-15. Each day will have a dress-up theme, with opportunities for each class to show off their thorough and creative participation. Monday will be a Pajama Day, and the rest of the week's list of days will be in next week's Memo.
FESTIVAL OF POETRY AND PROSE
Next Friday, April 15 will be our K-8 Festival of Poetry and Prose with an early dismissal at 12:30 for PK-8 for Spring Vacation. K-8th graders will engage in creative writing activities in mixed age groups, with 8th graders facilitating. The morning will conclude with time to listen to some of each other's crafted words and phrases.

The preschool After School and K-8 Extended Day Program will run from dismissal until 5:00. Please email Heather or Sean if your child(ren) will attend and let us know when you plan to pick up so that they can plan for the long afternoon accordingly.
HELP NEEDED
  • Driveway Repair: If anyone has a box blade on their tractor and can easily bring that to school to help smooth out some of the rough spots in the driveway, it would be greatly appreciated.
  • Many Hands for Tent Set Up: Spring is in the air and it is time to get the tents up so we can get the kids back outside as much as possible. Please enter your name and availability in this document and Roy will reach out about when that is happening.
SUPER RAFFLE
Our 2nd annual Super Raffle event is planned for May 14 in the Cedars at Riverside! Each family has been given tickets to sell, along with a letter to parents that explains the event in detail. Please return all 3 ticket stubs, or complete unsold tickets, to the office by Tuesday, April 26.
RIVERSIDE AGAINST CANCER
In honor of our beloved art teacher and all cancer fighters, survivors, and caregivers, students at the Riverside School are hosting a walkathon to benefit the American Cancer Society. We’ve all been impacted by this monstrous disease and through this event, we wish to offer support, inspiration and hope. We want to bring the whole Riverside community together with one common goal, to join in the fight for a cure. Please mark your calendars and take the afternoon of Friday, May 13th off from work to join us at The Riverside School. Our focus is on the health benefits of physical activity, sun safety, the dangers of tobacco use, and the importance of making healthy nutritional choices. Stay tuned for event specifics, fundraising information and ways to get involved. Contact Caroline Thompson with any questions.
22-23 CONTRACTS
Contracts for returning students are due back by April 8. If you would like a financial aid application for next year, you can email Krystal. Please return contracts, deposits, and financial aid applications promptly by Friday, April 8. This deadline is extremely important as we have a waitlist situation in many grades, and would like to offer those spaces as soon as possible to those applicants if they are not going to be filled by current families.
RAPID PCR TESTS AVAILABLE
We have a limited number of Lucira rapid PCR tests on hand. If you were exposed and would like a high-quality test, please let Roy or the office know and we will get one to you at pick up or drop off. You may also get one of these per household member through the state, through the same site that is used for regular PCR testing.
