Programs and supports announced for displaced Ukrainians
The Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program provides a temporary pathway for displaced Ukrainians to enter Canada and remain for up to three years. The program provides visitor visas to an unlimited number of Ukrainians and their family with the option to apply for a study or work permit. Read more
Session proposals for 2022 UBCM Convention

UBCM is now accepting clinic and workshop applications for the 2022 Convention in Whistler. Interested parties are asked to review the criteria and deadlines in the Session Proposal Process, and submit a proposal using the online form. The deadline for submissions is June 3, 2022. Read more
Bonding strategy proposed for industrial projects

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has released a discussion paper on the Public Interest Bonding Strategy. The objective of the Strategy is to ensure that owners of industrial projects pay the full costs of environmental clean-up and remediation, even if projects are abandoned. Read more
Community Excellence Awards

Applications are now being accepted for UBCM’s 2022 Community Excellence Awards. The application deadline is May 20, 2022. The awards recognize and celebrate UBCM members that have implemented projects or programs that demonstrate excellence in meeting the purposes of local government in B.C. Read more

Salary increase for RCMP commissioned officers

The RCMP has announced a salary increase of 1.75% for each year from 2017-2023 for Commissioned Officers, who are not included as part of the RCMP collective agreement. The salary increase, which came into effect on April 1, 2022, also includes payments retroactive to 2017, when the last pay package expired. Read more
