3rd Term Learning Environment Change Requests

Calendar Highlights

...and more!
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT CHANGE REQUESTS CLOSING JANUARY 10!

A link to a change request form was shared via Infinite Campus January 4 and requests will be open through January 10.

If you plan to make a change, please consider the impact a potential quarantine might have on your family in the coming quarter/term and select the correct environment. Due to staffing needs and configurations:

  • Changes at the elementary level will likely cause reassignment of your child’s teacher and class configuration, regardless of your family's decision. In addition, changes in either direction will not be honored after January 10.
  • KM will not be able to honor changes at the middle and high school levels from distance learning to face-to-face learning after January 10.
  • At the high-school level, selecting distance learning may alter your student’s term three course selections.
  • The final opportunity to request a change will occur before the start of term four, which begins on March 30.

NOTE: This change request form is only necessary if you want to change your environment for the third quarter/term, which begins January 26.

Feeling overwhelmed by the sea of college information?
Are you the parent of a Junior? Feeling like the sea of information about college entrance criteria, financial aid and scholarships is a bit overwhelming? We are here for you (and your student(s))!

We know it may be difficult to play the role of consultant, not decision-maker. We also know you ultimately want your student(s) to grow in their ability to make good decisions for themselves.
With that in mind, it may be helpful for you to encourage your student(s) to leverage our upcoming virtual post high school planning presentation on Tuesday, January 12th at 6 pm. Viewing that presentation together can set the stage for some great conversations!

Join the Zoom Meeting

Meeting ID: 851 4390 0555
Passcode: 739392

The information provided will cover: the junior/senior timeline, post high school options, and details about college entrance criteria and financial aid/scholarship opportunities. Our goal is to help provide each student with a smooth transition for life beyond high school.

Following this event, counselors will set up an individual conference with each junior to assist with their personal academic and career planning. Parents will receive notification of their student's meeting and are invited to join us virtually for the conference.

We look forward to seeing you and your student(s) in the meeting!

Additional information we share on this topic can be found in our:

  • Laser Update! - bi-weekly campus publication, which includes a counseling newsletter to share resources and information for all grade level students and families.
  • Daily announcements - Counseling Center events and resources communication.
  • KMHS website: Counseling page - post high school planning information (college resources, testing, financial aid/scholarships).

We look forward to supporting you on this journey!

Physics Students Show their Mettle in the Bridge Building Competition!
Some people build bridges with wood, others, metal... did you ever imagine a bridge built from pasta?!?

Physics students built bridges made of pasta so that students, both virtual and face to face, were able to obtain the materials. The students were able to choose which type(s) of pasta to use, but were limited to two pounds. As in years past, the goal was to build the bridge that could support the most weight over the 2.5 foot span.

As an added layer of competition, students were told their bridges would be judged in the categories of: best craftsmanship, most aesthetically pleasing, ugliest, most creative, and darkhorse (not necessarily pretty, but it will get the job done).

Check out the winning bridges!
KMHS Dance Enjoys Successful Invite
The Kettle Moraine High School Dance team had much to celebrate over the holiday break! The team participated in the Cheer & Dance Holiday Invitational December 19-20. More than 30 teams performed 148 routines, and KMHS has a brought home a ton of awards.

The team took first overall in the Division 1 Pom Group Routine and was tops in the Halftime/Game Day (Lucky Strike) in addition to many more!
Please encourage your students to leave early on wintry days so they arrive on time, and safely, all the time!

Students that arrive late without parents indicating late arrival through the infinite campus portal will be marked tardy unexcused.

To create a full day absence, arrive late, or leave early request simply logon to Infinite Campus, select "More" and complete the "Absence Request" form. Once a leave early request is processed, students will be notified of their approved leave and asked to show their teacher the email when they leave and go to the front office attendance window to scan out. Please allow 1 hour for any full day or leave early requests.
FREE LUNCH PROGRAM
Whether face-to-face or distance learning for any length of time, families are encouraged to take advantage of the free lunch program. Click the button below for more info and to sign up today.
UPDATED 2020-2021 SCHOOL CALENDAR
Face coverings, in combination with other mitigation measures, have served the Kettle Moraine School District well in the first month of school and are proven to greatly reduce the spread and effects of COVID-19.

The district is in regular communication with Waukesha County Public Health, who strongly recommends face coverings in schools. This recommendation aligns with CDC and State Health Dept guidelines. Our district face-covering requirement is in place for the entire 2020-21 school year, regardless of the governor’s current or future orders.
