Red Wing state legislators answer ProAct questions at Capitol
ProAct participants and staff from Red Wing enjoyed an informative Capitol tour followed by an engaging sit-down session with their state senator and representative.

Rep. Barb Haley and Sen. Mike Goggin took many questions from participants and staff and expressed their support for disability services.

“One of the things we want to make sure continues is to provide choice,” said Case Coordinator Gloria Solsaa, referring to threats to the special minimum wage option that many utilize at ProAct. “It’s important to our individuals to have that base of work in-center.” -more-

Eagan ADS group attends The Arc's Capitol rally
An Adult Day Services group from ProAct in Eagan returned to the Capitol in St. Paul for another disability rally at the end of February, the 2020 Disability Day at the Capitol organized by The Arc Minnesota and four other organizations.

It began with training at the Transportation Building. Two marches, one outside and a quieter march through the tunnel led to the rotunda where The Arc Minnesota and legislators talked about the importance of work and personal care attendants.

“It was great,” said group members. Some mentioned how loud it was and some could not understand what was said. A number of the participants attended last year’s Disability Services Day at the Capitol put on by the Best Life Alliance, and plan to return in March for that event. -more-

'Hudson Hot Air Affair' goes inside for participants
The big event in Hudson, Wis. happens in February, as the Hudson Hot Air Affair floats in for frosted views of the St. Croix River via hot air balloons. ProAct in that same city took hold of the theme and made it their own.

Participants created their own hot air balloon models with personal photos inside and visual showing their passions up top. The idea was the brainchild of direct service professional Tia Field.

“I’ve always been somebody who likes creating her own thing . . . keeping everyone involved,” said Field. All but two of the 21 participants got involved, with some creating hot air balloon crafts for others who were gone that day.

On Fridays, “Bo,” a middle-aged black lab gets in on the action. Seeking people out, he wants to be petted. “He’ll go from person to person until he’s worked the entire room,” said Program Coordinator Margaret Christensen.
