MY HOME, MY DEED, MY LEGACY CAMPAIGN
We're Back for Year Two!
Thanks to the generous support of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the My Home, My Deed, My Legacy campaign is back for another year! In 2020, we're looking forward to a continued city-wide media campaign and five homeowner clinics (an increase from the four we hosted in 2019). As always, we will continue connecting qualifying individuals with volunteer attorneys to provide one-on-one support for estate planning, and now...estate administration (also known as probate)!
DHCD's support allowed MVLS to hire Timothy Chance as a Tangled Title Staff Attorney. This new position assists individuals who have a legal interest in their homes but are not the legal owner by offering direct representation in estate administration and deed transfer cases. Tim will support volunteer attorneys accepting these cases and develop substantive resources.

Tim has already started working with clients in estate administration cases and has begun compiling potential volunteers and mentors to assist clients in obtaining legal title to their homes.
First Home Owner Clinic on March 18th

We are happy to announce that our first homeowner clinic will be hosted and supported by the wonderful people at Dundalk Renaissance .

Wednesday, March 18, 2020
3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Dundalk Renaissance
11 Center Place, Dundalk, MD 21222

Dundalk Renaissance's extensive community work of providing homeowner programs, access to neighborhood maps, commercial and small business support, and relationships with lenders and real estate partners make them the perfect host for this event. The clinic will be held at The Forge, their new development center, in the heart of Dundalk. This partnership represents the kind of community based approach to equitable development that is so important as our neighborhoods continue to grow and thrive.

Please feel free to distribute the flyer below and encourage others to register by visiting myhomemydeed.org or by calling 443-451-4082.
Why is Estate Planning Important?
These three articles summ arize why estat e planning is essential to family and community stabilization:

Dan Rodricks Highlights Estate Work
In a recent column for The Baltimore Sun, commentator Dan Rodricks wrote about the issue of tangled titles in Baltimore City homes, and what MVLS volunteers are doing to resolve these challenges.
Estate Planning Information Available
MVLS wants you to have access to information and resources related to estate planning and administration. We have a series of factsheets, informational videos, and infographics on Advance Planning website here.

Please continue to share our newsletter articles and social media posts found in the ( recently updated!) social media toolkit , re-share the posts on our Facebook page , or let us know if you need more original content!

If you need more materials (posters, flyers, stickers, decals), contact Christie Smith .

MVLS Advanced Planning Project Coordinator John Kern has been out and about, presenting to many groups about the critical need to do their estate planning. If you would like John to come speak with your organization, send him a message!

And of course, extensive information about the campaign is available on the myhomemydeed.org website.
We are so grateful for our incredible community partners and their efforts in helping us to spread the word about the My Home, My Deed, My Legacy campaign. A public awareness project of this magnitude would not be possible without your support.

Thank you so much!
