Throughout the pandemic, Fairfax County has turned to local leaders from nonprofit organizations, faith-based communities and other community organizations to help spread the word about COVID-19 health, safety and testing. As the county focuses efforts on vaccination, these partnerships have been activated even further with a unique ‘Word of Mouth’ outreach program. Learn more.

The Reston Comprehensive Plan Study Task Force is scheduled to wrap up its review process this summer following a yearlong effort and more than two dozen meetings (the photo is from our virtual Webex meeting on Monday). Its recommendations will then be shared for feedback at town hall meetings and dialogues with stakeholders such as homeowner associations, community organizations and business groups. More information will be forthcoming on dates and other details when available.

Since May 2020, the Reston Comprehensive Plan Study Task Force members have been working diligently, with the support of the county’s Department of Planning and Development, to review and propose updates to key elements of the Comprehensive Plan including the planned balance of ongoing redevelopment, infrastructure and the environment across all of Reston.

I initiated the review process of the Reston Comprehensive Plan in January 2020 and it was approved by the Board of Supervisors for additional study and community input.

Help shape the future of Fairfax County, Hunter Mill District and your neighborhood by providing feedback on the proposed Countywide Strategic Plan. The proposed strategic plan was developed through extensive community engagement and lays out a community-based vision for the next 10 to 20 years. Originally proposed to the Board of Supervisors in February 2020, COVID-19 paused public progress until now. The updated proposed plan includes recognition of the immediate and longer-term impacts of the pandemic.

You are invited to take a survey to provide your input on topics including Health and Environment, Safety and Security, Housing and Neighborhood Livability and Mobility and Transportation. Find the survey online in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Vietnamese.

April 6 is 2021 Paving and Restriping Public Meeting for Hunter Mill District

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation and Virginia Department of Transportation are hosting virtual meetings this spring regarding the 2021 Paving and Restriping Program. The Hunter Mill District meeting will be held April 6 at 7 p.m. Learn more.

The Fairfax County Police Department's Neighborhood Patrol Unit is deploying marked police cruisers with a solid light bar (not flashing) in the coming weeks. If you see this car in your community, officers are out on patrol to be visible and engaged with the community.

Fire and Rescue Department Provides Tips on Keeping Kids Safe and Away from Screened/Open Windows.

Warm weather usually prompts many residents to open the windows in their home. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department wants to alert residents to an issue that tragically comes up each spring – children falling out of screened or open windows. Learn more

Hunter Mill District students are invited to attend a virtual town hall hosted by Hunter Mill District School Board member Melanie Meren on Wednesday, March 24, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn more

The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, March 23, 7 p.m. to present the study findings and gather public comment on the Dog Park Study Draft Report. Meeting registration information and instructions to access the meeting can be found at Dog Park Study website. You need not register to attend virtually. More Information.

The county's two new sites are at the I-95 Landfill Complex and the I-66 Transfer Station, which are open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can drop off your food waste into one of the green bins. The waste is taken to a local composting facility. Finished compost is used for landscaping and agriculture. As of last week, more than 4,500 pounds of food has been collected. More Information.

Kindergarten registration for the fall is open for children who will turn five on or before Sept. 30. Parents can find out their local school by viewing the FCPS boundary locator. For kindergarteners, the separate kindergarten registration page has the most detailed information. In addition, families can call the School Age Child Care (SACC) registration department at 703-449-8989 to speak with a registrar about the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. 

Rec-PAC is hiring to fill more than 200 positions for its six-week summer camp program. Rec-PAC, affiliated with the Fairfax County Park Authority, is hosting a series of six virtual information sessions for job seekers interested in working as a camp counselor or camp director. Learn more.
