This white paper explores the design, construction, and biophilic features of the Vancouver Public Library Central expansion project in downtown Vancouver. The project made the green roof publicly accessible, brought biophilic design elements into the new interior space, and is LEED® Gold® certified under the CI v1.0 rating system.

The West Wind Harbour Cohousing project is located in Sooke, BC, it is a six-storey wood framed building with 34 oceanfront units. It is the first cohousing development that has met the BUILT GREEN® Gold level certification.

The project is 20% better than the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) 2011 for Energy & Envelope, as well as achieved Built Green’s requirements in the remaining sections of High Density certification. The cohousing team with shared interests created a new diverse community gathering house and kept the original house on the property. As the project Verifier, Light House wants to note those areas where the project went above and beyond, such as solar-ready design, large exterior corridors for social gathering, and the maximum use of existing building. It was a pleasure visiting this site, not only because of the location, but also the dedication and care the team had for this project.
