Rector's Ramblings

As we continue with Wellness 2020: I Will with God's Help, we have entered what I call "Money March." The intent is to be thoughtful about how we spend our money this month. It can be easy to lose track of our spending. For a lot of folks, it can be eye-opening to see just how much we spend on various areas of our lives.

One of my credit cards gives me an annual summary in January. It shows all of my spending for the previous year, broken into several categories. Their breakdown isn't entirely accurate because the system doesn't always know how to classify each expense, but it successfully categorizes most of them. It shows, for example, how much was spent on groceries, eating in restaurants, on fuel, and several other areas. In one sense, it's not that big a surprise because we try to live within a budget. Nonetheless, our budget is monthly, and to see the year-end totals can and does grab my attention.

Worship

The Season of Lent

Join us for weekly worship at Christ Church. Holy Eucharist worship services take place on Saturday at 5:30 pm at St. Ignatius Chapel, on Demere Road, and on Sunday at 8:00 am, 9:15 am (services in both historic Christ Church and the Parish Hall), and 11:15 am at Christ Church, Frederica. Kidurgy, our Liturgy of the Word for younger children, takes place during the 9:15 am worship service at Christ Church.
Bishop-Elect Frank Logue Visits
We were delighted to have Bishop-Elect Frank Logue join us at Christ Church this past weekend as our guest preacher, and look forward to his ordination as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, in Savannah, at the Johnny Mercer Theater, on Saturday, May 30, 2020. The liturgy will  begin promptly at 11:00 am. The service is expected to end by 1:30 PM and a reception with the new bishop will follow in the hallway outside the theater.

Formation

Lenten Contemplative Group
There's a difference between knowing about God and knowing God. Contemplative practices help us know God. Through prayer, worship, scripture, meditation, and silence, we experience God's presence and are healed, renewed and transformed by God's love. Our group format includes chanting, centering prayer, and lectio divina. We enter and leave in silence. All are welcome to join us. While this group is being formed primarily within the Christian faith, contemplation is practiced by most faith traditions. If you're new to contemplative practice and have never practiced centering prayer and/or lectio divina before, no problem. Call Randy to schedule a 15-minute orientation before your first meeting. We will meet in the Vestry Room of the Christ Church Parish House for five Thursdays from 11:00 am to Noon (March 12, 19 & 26 and April 2 and 9). Come when you can! For more information, contact Randy Siegel, 828 301-0819 or [email protected].
Wednesday Lenten Study
Fr. Tom is currently leading This Is Your Life: A Lenten Journey. The study focuses on the different periods of our lives, through the lens of faith. The sessions begin each week at 1:00 pm in the Parish Hall, with lunch at 12:30 pm for those who can attend. All are encouraged to join the Healing Service that precedes the book study, at noon, in the historical church. Contact Fr. Tom at [email protected] for more information.
Adult Sunday Morning Class

The Adult Sunday class has begun a new book, Adam Hamilton's, The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life.  The study will continue through Palm Sunday, April 5. The class meets in the Adult Sunday school room in the Parish Hall at 10:30 am on Sunday mornings.  How do we walk with Christ - daily follow him, grow in him, and faithfully serve him? In the Gospels, Jesus modeled for us the Christian spiritual life. The apostles taught it in their writings. And the Church has, through the last 2,000 years, sought to pursue this Christian spiritual life. Deepen your walk with Christ as we explore the five essential practices of worship, study, serving, giving, and bearing witness to our faith. All adults are welcome. Books will be available in the CCF Book Shop.   For more information, contact Bob Brown at  [email protected] .

Men's Study Group
The Men's Discussion Group gathers on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am in the Youth Room in the Parish House. They are currently reading, The Great Spiritual Migration by Brian D. McLaren.  The Christian story, from Genesis until now, is fundamentally about people on the move - outgrowing old, broken religious systems and embracing new, more redemptive ways of life.   If you'd like to join this study , please contact Te Turner at [email protected] .
Episcopal Church 101
Episcopal Church 101 is a multi-week offering for those interested in joining the Episcopal Church or simply learning more about our practices, history, theology and why we do what we do. Fitness for Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength:
This Month Is MONEY MARCH
Christ Church is working on wellness this year through Wellness 2020: I Will with God's Help. Wellness 2020 will include monthly initiatives for an aspect of wellness, all of which flow from our need to love God with with our heart, soul, mind and strength.

This month, try setting a goal to save a certain amount or give an additional amount of money away by intentionally curbing spending on something that is a non-essential. It doesn't have to be a lot. It might be one less espresso a week, or not eating out as much, or curbing our shopping impulse. Be aware of the role of money in our lives and how it is truly a treasure to be handled with good stewardship.  To see the complete list of monthly goals, click here .
New Directory Coming
Photos of parish members and their families will be taken on the weekends of March 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29, between worship services at St. Ignatius and Christ Church, Frederica, for a new in-house church directory. For more information, please contact Mtr. Ashton at [email protected].
