The Steve Thompson Golf Tournament
The Neuro Assistance Foundation is honored to announce that we will be a beneficiary of the Steve Thompson Classic Charity Golf Tournament hosted by Classic Chevrolet this year.

For several years now, the employees of Classic Chevrolet have been involved with our community on multiple levels, always supported and encouraged by our owner Tom Durant. Seven years ago, Tom and Susan Durant put out the challenge for the employees to "raise as much as they could" and they would personally match it dollar for dollar. In 2012 a committee was formed by the employees of Classic Chevrolet to take our fund raising efforts to the next level, thus began our annual golf tournament. In 2014 we lost a long time employee and family member, Steve Thompson, who worked as General Sales Manager for the "Thompson Group" Fleet and Commercial Sales department. Renaming our golf tournament "The Steve Thompson - Classic" seemed like an appropriate way to honor our friend who embodied the meaning of giving to others.

Engineer Designs Home Controlled by Blinks
Steve Saling, a landscape architect by trade, and an engineer assisted in the design of the long-term living facility in which he resides. His designs give independence to those living with nearly no physical functionality. Steve was "Unwilling to accept a life utterly dependent on caretakers, [so ] Saling designed a series of systems that let patients with ALS control their environment in the assisted living center with the barest of movements: blinks and facial twitches. They can open and close doors, turn on and off lights, change TV channels, and control heat and air-conditioning, among other things".

An Update on Terri and Ben
Our client, Terri, was injured in a car accident in 2002. She became our client and part of our family in 2008 when NAF was just starting off.
Look at what's happened to Terri recently! This is Terri's first grandchild who just celebrated her first birthday in July. What a cutie! Congratulations Terri!
Our client, Ben, received a T-12 Spinal Cord injury due to a motorcycle accident in 2013.
We met him during his rehab and were able to help him and his family when he returned home. Today Ben is married, half way done with his Mechanical Engineering Degree, and still as active as ever! Here is a photo of Ben during a presentation at the internship he has been involved in for the last year and a half.

The Neuro Assistance Foundation writes and publishes this newsletter on a bi-monthly basis. We do this to keep our readers informed of what is going on in our little community.
Life in general is so vast, there are endless topics which can be discussed, researched, and taught. Last year, NAF helped 18 year old Brooke of Saginaw, TX after she was in an ATV accident on her 18th birthday. What a year it's been since we met her!
Brooke was accepted and set to leave for East Texas Baptist University last August but her injury and rehab forced a postponement. She was able to enter the spring semester at ETBU in January of this year and surrounded by classmates and friends, she's had an amazing 2016!
Starting college in a wheelchair can be daunting, but Brooke is never without a smile on her face. If starting college wasn't enough, we're also happy to announce Brooke's engagement to her high school sweetheart. They are planning a 2017 wedding.
Congrats to both of you from everyone at NAF!!

Handicap Parking Abuse
We are calling for a 'Call To Action' among the handicap community and anyone aware of the true need the handicap community has for the handicap parking spaces. There needs to be an end of the abuse of handicap parking spaces.
