NEW! Thoughts from our District Associate:
Friends,
Easter…. It was just a few days ago and we are still in that season. We proclaimed that Jesus is Risen! Songs of resurrection were sung; the holy story of the empty tomb was read, and that Good News was proclaimed. I remember the church I grew up in ethe Easter Anthem was predictable as yearly Every Morning Is Easter Morning (Donald Marsh and Richard Avery) was sung.
The message is in the title. Resurrection is an everyday celebration and yet as I sat in my blue recliner in our family room watching TV, I saw images of the war in Ukraine with the suffering and pain of the guiltless. I hear and see the evidence of systemic prejudice. There is the uncertainty of Covid and whether to mask or not to mask. Our own United Methodist Church is challenged by the LGBTQ+ decisions with delays and seemingly more delays. The anxiety in our world is almost palpable and yet somehow, Every Morning is Easter Morning.
And so, I sat in that blue recliner pondering where I might get a glimpse of that every day resurrection message and I looked out of the window. It seems remarkably simple and certainly is not very sophisticated, but I saw the new shoots of leaves beginning to sprout on the trees. The regular cycle of nature reminded me of birth and rebirth, of resurrection and life. Even more in the last few days I have heard people share their story of faith in the risen Christ.
I guess every morning is Easter Morning if we look for it and if we live it. And I thank God for my blue reclining chair and the leaves sprouting on the trees. Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed!
Blessings,
David M Underwood
District Associate
